Welcome to Hawksmoor Chicago, our biggest and boldest steakhouse yet, located in the iconic LaSalle Powerhouse in River North. We’ve brought everything we’ve learned from nearly 20 years in the UK, Ireland and the US to create something genuinely special in downtown Chicago – a city that knows and loves great steak. Named the World’s Best Steak Restaurant and a James Beard Foundation semi-finalist, Hawksmoor is built on a simple philosophy: buy the best and let it shine. That means incredible beef from family-run farms across the Northeast and Pacific Northwest, cooked over open fire. Our responsibly sourced seafood from the Northeast is treated with the same care. In our 16,500 sq ft space, with barrel-vaulted ceilings and touches from Chicago's Golden Age of Travel, you’ll find world-class dining without formality – no stiff uniforms or scripts, just relaxed, knowledgeable teams who love what they do. Join us for Happy Hour (daily 5–6pm), and our award-winning Sunday Roast.

I visited Hawksmoor Chicago and had an outstanding, refined steakhouse experience. Hawksmoor Chicago The restaurant felt elegant yet warm, with a sophisticated interior that still felt inviting and lively. I ordered a steak and a few classic sides, and everything was cooked perfectly—rich, deeply flavorful, and high quality from start to finish. The attention to detail in both food and presentation really stood out. Service was polished, knowledgeable, and very attentive without being intrusive. It’s a top Chicago spot for serious steak lovers and a memorable fine dining experience.

Elevated steakhouse with a unique vibe Hawksmoor Chicago delivers a really unique take on the traditional steakhouse experience. Set inside a stunning historic space, the atmosphere alone makes it worth the visit—think dark woods, high ceilings, and a cool mix of old-school charm with modern energy. The steaks are the star of the show, cooked over charcoal and sourced from high-quality farms, which definitely comes through in the flavor. When done right, they’re rich, tender, and exactly what you want from a top-tier steakhouse.

The food is very British. The cooking methods on the steak represent the texture of the temperature you want not the color you expect on the ask. For example. I like my steaks medium rare (mr) but asked for medium (m) bc my wife and I were sharing and she prefers medium. Color looked mr but texture was m. Phenomenal service by our server Berto. Check this place out if you want phenomenal drinks and food from across the Atlantic near Lake Michigan.

Hawksmoor Chicago really knocked it out of the park! We started with the bone marrow, which was super tasty and a surprisingly big portion. The steaks were incredibly tender and high-quality, and while they were a little on the fatty side, the flavor was definitely there. I have to mention the potatoes, too—they were absolutely amazing and easily a highlight of the night. What really made the evening, though, was the service. The staff was phenomenal and so attentive, making us feel genuinely well-taken care of. It’s a great spot and I’d definitely recommend checking it out.

Hawksmoor Chicago arrived with high expectations for us, driven by strong word of mouth and consistently favorable reviews. The evening began on a positive note when the restaurant graciously seated us early after our opera performance ended ahead of schedule, an accommodation we genuinely appreciated. We were also given an excellent table, which made for a promising start. That said, the room itself felt surprisingly subdued. At 6:00 p.m. on a Sunday, the restaurant was nearly empty aside from a handful of guests at the bar. While the overall vibe is pleasant enough, it did not fully align with the distinctive English steakhouse identity Hawksmoor is known for. Service was courteous and efficient, though somewhat uneven; our initial server was quirky but capable, yet his shift ended midway through the meal and the handoff to another staff member made the experience feel less seamless than it should have. A more notable concern was cleanliness. The floor felt sticky, and the dining room carried a generally messy impression that distracted from the otherwise upscale aspirations of the restaurant. On the beverage side, the Duke’s Bar Martini was a disappointment, particularly for those familiar with the original. It simply did not capture the precision or character one expects from that name. The wine list is well-composed for bottle selections, but the by-the-glass offerings felt limited. The food, fortunately, was the saving grace. Overall, it was quite good and showed real quality in the kitchen. Still, for a restaurant centered so heavily on steak, execution there matters most. My entrée was good, but not great, and ultimately fell short of the exceptional standard I had anticipated. In a city with so many outstanding dining options, Hawksmoor delivered a respectable meal but not one compelling enough to earn a return visit.
