Toast It IZ in River North delivers a high-energy brunch experience with bold flavors and a lively vibe. It’s more brunch party than quiet café — upbeat music, creative cocktails, and a crowd that’s there for both the food and the fun.
The menu mixes comfort classics with inventive twists, like chicken and waffles, loaded skillets, pancake tacos, and over-the-top toasts. Portions are generous, flavors are rich, and the drinks (especially mimosas and flights) are a big draw.
Service is generally friendly and attentive, though wait times can stretch during busy weekends. If you’re looking for a vibrant, social brunch spot with personality, this is your place — just don’t expect a low-key morning diner atmosphere.

This place is a WHOLE VIBE!! I mean that in the best way possible. From the music to the food to the service, everything just flows together. The atmosphere feels good the moment you walk in.
What really made our experience stand out was Mark. He was cleaning a table next to us and took the time to come over and check on our group of nine. He introduced himself to every single one of us and genuinely asked how we were enjoying the food and service. It didn’t feel forced or scripted, it felt real. He was extremely kind, attentive, and welcoming. I think he was the owner, that hands-on presence says everything about how this place is run.
His customer service left a lasting impression on all of us and trust me, that impression is traveling back to California, Dallas, San Antonio, and Peoria. That kind of experience sticks with people.
I highly recommend this spot. My husband and I will absolutely be back the next time we’re in the city. I just wish we had one in Peoria it would definitely stay packed. Mark the P love a good brunch place!
I’m from Nashville and have heard good things about toast it iz and omg everything was wonderful the service the food the atmosphere the establishment is clean and up to par the bathrooms are very clean and inviting. Our server soraya was wonderful friendly helpful nice bubbly she was everything make sure yall keep her. Now for the food OMG when I say there wasn’t a complaint on anything you don’t need seasoning for anything everything was cooked to perfection. The chicken was crunchy juicy and flavorful. The French toast (fruity pebbles ) were soft fluffy and so delicious when I say even the syrup was so good. The chef dundee is amazing. He told me he would give me the Mac and cheese recipe lol. He came out and greeted us I told him yall need to bring one to Nashville the line would be going for days because we just don’t have food this good! A++++ all across the board from me. Keep doing yall thing!!!! Don’t change anything!

We made a 12:15 PM brunch reservation at Toast It IZ in River North for 19 guests and left a $200 deposit in advance to secure the table for a birthday celebration.
We arrived on time and checked in as instructed. Shortly after, the host stated she “didn’t know it was a large party” and needed to confirm whether we had left a deposit. After waiting with no update, multiple managers became involved. One asked for proof of deposit. Another stated that the person I had been texting no longer worked there. The deposit had been sent via Cash App to the name provided at booking.
About 1.5 hours later, we were finally seated — and not together. At that point, our party had dropped from 19 to 13 because of the delay.
The smaller table received their food, ate, and finished. The larger table received only some appetizers and no entrees. When food finally came out, it was incorrect. By this time, it was after 4:00 PM. We had been there since 12:15 PM.
The server offered to comp my tab, which at that point was only drinks since I never received food. When I asked how the $200 deposit would be handled, I was told it would “come off the bill.” That didn’t make sense because my tab was being comped.
Eventually, someone came over, asked how much the deposit was, pulled out cash, and handed me $200. At that point, it wasn’t about the money. It was about the experience. My guests were still waiting to settle their checks after hours of delays and incorrect food.
A 12:15 brunch reservation turned into a four-hour ordeal on a beautiful day that was meant to celebrate a birthday. We left hungry.
As a small business owner, I understand that things happen. But when deposits are taken and reservations are confirmed, communication and organization matter. Unfortunately, the situation continued to decline instead of improve.
Upon entry communication is key when sitting your reservations explain the wait reason. Better communication better understanding. Next, waiting for my food took over an 1 hour, it is Valentine's Day. My res was for 10:45 didn't get seated until 11:17,the food came around 12.30.My food was sat at another table for another guest to touch. The waitress took the food from one table to bring to my table after guest touched it. Thankfully he said something. They took the plates back, 5 min later bring me my order. If I've waited almost 2hours for my food you can't tell me that was a freshly cooked plate. I'm not crazy the whip cream was melted the same. Manager stated took someone else order that was exactly the same? The fact you would turn around and cause another table to suffer and possibly create 2 customer service issues is not understanding to me. At this point I don't trust it and I don't want anything. Thanks for the mimosas but Maybe, just maybe I will try them again on a less crowded day. It's probably too much going on for them to function at full capacity. Manager outside taking a smoke break instead of handling the situation. When I told her I didn't want the food she never came back to the table she went to go smoke. I left that food untouched and on the table. That really aggravated my valentine's day seeing as I have to work this evening, was banking on enjoying my brunch. But I guess not. On a good note the food does look good just wasn't able to taste to enjoy. Happy Valentine's Day
