It’s a concept our Time Out Portugal team created in 2014, then launched inside the city’s historic market, Mercado da Ribeira. With eight bars, a dozen shops, a high-end music venue and 24 restaurants—from the best burger spot and the top steak joint to the tastiest sushi sensation—Lisbon’s finest eateries are all represented. This unique mix of traditional and trendy is something you’ll find only at Time Out Market Lisbon.
Across the Atlantic, Time Out Market Chicago picks up the baton and introduces the Second City to its own version of this tried-and-true concept right in the heart of the historic Fulton Market District. Spread across 50,000 square feet, the curated dining destination packs 18 eateries, three bars, a demo kitchen, a rooftop terrace and a video-installation wall into one space that encompasses the best food, drinks and culture that Chicago has to offer.
As in its Lisbon predecessor, the Chicago outpost follows a simple rule when it comes to curation: If it’s good, it goes in the magazine; if it’s great, it goes in the market. I told security and security asked him to apologize to me and would not remove him from the establishment. I am appalled that they do not take physical assault more seriously, let alone when a man does it to a woman. Later, when I told a different security worker, that worker slapped my hand and said it’s fine. When I asked him not to touch me, he began arguing with me. The unprofessional behavior from security was disturbing. Knowing they are comfortable with women being treated this way, I will never go back.

Also had the ramen dish and it too, was delicious! Atmosphere was so, so, but the place was getting ready for New Year’s Eve. Definitely recommend.

Grab your food when it’s ready and get your own drinks from the bar. It’s a great way to catch up with friends while allowing everyone to eat what they want and keep separate checks. It was busy when we visited but it’s big so we found seating easily. We enjoyed some delicious espresso martinis at the bar while we ate. This is in a great area. Stop by if you haven’t already.

But the difference is, the food is incredibly delicious… and the portions are huge! I had the Lalo’s on the Beach Bowl… it was the BEST! My wife had the Lalo’s on the Beach Burrito. It was huge! The QR code menu and the table service was fast and friendly! We definitely want to go back! We will try something different every time we go. Highly recommended!!!
