Somerset brings the bold, vibrant spirit of the Mediterranean to the heart of the Gold Coast at Viceroy Chicago. Rooted in the rich traditions of Southern Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, Somerset blends old-world flavors with a fresh, modern edge. Warm spices, bright herbs, and stone fire breads define Chef Verlord Laguatan's menu designed for sharing and discovery. With every bite, you’ll taste the dance of zesty harissa, smoky zaatar, and the earthy warmth of pistachio and dukkah. Paired with curated wines, inventive cocktails, and a chic, inviting atmosphere, Somerset transforms every meal into a dynamic celebration of flavor, culture, and connection.

New to the city and Somerset was my first dinner in the city. It was great but everything is a la cart.

Stayed at the Viceroy, the restaurant’s hotel and it’s a Michelin key hotel so I had high expectations for this restaurant and was excited to try it. Unfortunately the restaurant is very subpar. The entrees are bland. Peri peri chicken was rubbery. Truffle mashed potatoes are from a box. Charred broccolini was burnt to a black crisp to where it crumbled in your hands. Even Applebee’s peels fresh potatoes every morning for their menu items I don’t understand why this restaurant doesn’t.
Service was lacking, I had to wave the waitress down for everything and she only had 2 other tables. She never offered to replace the broccolini when we complained, just told us “it comes this way.” When we asked for a replacement I had to flag her down for the new plate of broccolini and it didn’t arrive until after we had ate our dinner entrees. If we weren’t rushing to see the light show at the Chicago Botanic Garden then I would have complained on the spot about our food and the service. We were supposed to eat breakfast there but were too scared to try it after our dinner experience. Wasted $285+

I would never recommend this place. The service was absolutely awful I had to wait so long for my food that I practically fainted from hunger. The staff seemed completely uninterested and unorganized, and no one bothered to check in or apologize for the delay. By the time the food finally arrived, any enjoyment was long gone. For a place that’s supposed to have a good reputation, this was a total disappointment. Save yourself the frustration and go somewhere else for breakfast

Don’t waste your time or money. I don’t normally post reviews of poor establishments but today is the exception. Absolutely terrible experience - plenty better places to spend your money in the area so avoid at all costs. Food was very poor, waited 35 mins for a meal to appear, only for it to be the wrong order for one of our party. Place was not busy and much of the staff stood propping up the kitchen station talking. No refills, no sign of our server for over 30 mins. Serious attitude problem when pressed on the status of the order and how the mix happened. Told they’d need to make the correct order from scratch. Manager was no better, zero help and made no effort to fix the issue other than adding a smug dismissive tone.
