Cara at Snakes & Lattes was absolutely amazing! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Her service was top-tier and she brought such great energy to our table. What really stood out was her incredible knowledge of board games and she helped guide us through the options and then patiently taught us how to play Pandemic. She explained everything clearly, made it fun, and made sure we were set up for a great game.
Thanks to Cara, our whole experience was fantastic. If you’re visiting Snakes & Lattes, definitely hope you get her as your server and you’ll be in great hands!

Sooo cute and fun! Best game cafe I’ve been to in chicago. The design is so fantasy like. Highly recommend the banana bread espresso martini. Chris and Jason were soo nice and helpful with picking a game. He knew everything about all the games they had stocked (and there were a LOT to pick from) and even helped us w the rules. super cute library of games. Great date or friend outing ideal

Starting with the good: they had an impressive game collection with a good combination of new and old titles. The food was decent and came out quickly. The librarian came around a few times to check on our understanding of the mechanics. Hostess was able to seat us without a reservation on a busy night!
The bad: Staff were weirdly dismissive about seating and learning games. Some of the rudest staff we’ve encountered in the city. The lightning inside makes it difficult to see your game especially at night. The seats themselves seemed run down and didn’t look particularly clean. They use a QR code system which was glitchy and didn’t have a method for calling the staff (unless you added something to your order) forcing you to get up and go directly to them. As a side note, I understand the librarian can’t be expected to know every game in the collection. That said, there didn’t appear to be a clear system for identifying which games they were knowledgeable about, and when I asked, the responses felt unnecessarily rude rather than helpful. Paying $7 for seating for games that are covered in grease and missing pieces doesn’t feel like a good value especially after fairly pricey food and drink.

Been here before. Vibes are cool, the main guy has always been a little pretentious but whatever, he probably sees a lot of different characters working there. Went with a party of 6, got sat in a booth, great! Ordered some food and some drinks. Was planning to play monopoly and the board was in 4 pieces, didn’t have enough play tokens for all of us. We reported it to the main guy that they might want to get a new one and he was like “meh” and didn’t care. Or even pretend to ‘customer service’ a “okay thanks”
We tried the cheaters edition and that was also a mess and unplayable.
Like this isnt even an expensive game. Just a few of our game passes paid for a new monopoly game
I am deeply considering not going back
Edit- 3 days later: the response from owner to this review was erased. Must show how much they actually care about their patrons feeling heard

Edit: I'm going to double down on this being a ripoff. To be clear, I closed my tab out while I was still on site at like 10:09 pm or something like that. It's not like I walked out on the tab without paying and came back several days later. If this establishment relies on automatic gratuities based on a ~technicality~ to pay for "table service, food running, drink preparation, cleaning, dish washing, restocking" and so on and so forth, then it sounds like the owner isn't paying a livable wage, which is all the more reason not to go here. Finally, please note that the owner mentions explaining, recommending and teaching games when I already explicitly mentioned that was never an employee in the game library doing any of those things, even though the host and now the owner said there should be. Maybe for whatever reason they were having a busy night, but regardless my experience did not match what has been advertised. So, again, what was I tipping for?
They don't tell you this when you're there, but if you don't close your tab out before they close they automatically add a 20% tip on your order. What am I tipping 20% for? Considering you're tipping 20% for a master librarian was never actually there when you went to look for games and a bar tender that doesn't put in or close the order but rather opens a beer or shakes together a mixer and a spirit, this place is a gigantic ripoff. And if you're wondering if this 20% policy is on their website, note that there are two different FAQs on their website and it's only in one of them.
