The service was appalling even though restaurant was half empty. In addition at 9.30, even though there were still quite a few people in the restaurant, they either turned off the heat and/or left the outside doors wide open on a freezing Chicago night. This appeared to be a signal to us to leave.

We went for Thanksgiving. The buffet was mediocre at best. Very, very small for a buffet. Salad was good, the rolls and honey butter were good as well, mac and cheese was very dry and the mashed potatoes were alright. Cranberry sauce, not canned, was really good. The turkey was actually good but the ham was very dry. The food was lukewarm and should have definitely been kept warmer. Also, no regular butter. The deserts weren’t even fresh or made in house, so basically trash. The best part, absolutely NO stuffing for thanksgiving. The new chef didn’t want to make it this year (per the manager). They had green beans but I didn’t try. Thats the food list. And no salt and pepper (food was lacking some flavor/spice) which was odd that they couldn’t get shakers from the back being a normal restaurant. $85 a person before tax and tip, not worth it, worst thanksgiving meal ever. The staff were very friendly. It was quality of the Vegas Vacation buffet!

Went here yesterday for the first time the food was amazing. I had the steak and brussels sprouts and If you appetizers, they were all amazing. They also made me a skinny margarita and it was also just as great as the food! I don’t remember the server name, but he was great!! Highly recommend this place.

Amazing restaurant. Great location, service, and food. The manager is fantastic and very personable. It was my first time there and he offered our party a free chocolate cake on the house. Definitely recommend this place for a nice night out or special occasion.

I was really looking forward to my visit to River Roast for Thanksgiving dinner, but unfortunately at $85 a person my experience fell far short of expectations.
To start, there were issues with my bill even though I had already paid ahead of time. I ended up dealing with confusion and then telling me that I had not prepaid even though I had the receipt to prove I prepaid. It took far too long to get it sorted out.
The buffet was also disappointing. Several items were at incorrect temperatures some dishes that should have been hot were barely warm, and a few cold items were sitting out at room temperature. It didn’t seem like anyone was monitoring or rotating the food properly, which was concerning and could potentially given everyone food poisoning.
The worst part, though, was the interaction with the manager. When I politely brought up the food temperature concerns, the manager was dismissive. Instead of listening or offering to help, they made me feel like I was inconveniencing them by speaking up.
Overall, I left feeling frustrated and flushed $478 down the drain. I hope River Roast improves both its customer service and food safety practices, but based on this experience, I wouldn’t return anytime soon.
