We had an absolutely amazing experience at Mastro’s Steakhouse while visiting Chicago. We were out of town celebrating my birthday with my daughters, and the entire team truly went above and beyond to make the night special. Our waitress, June, took exceptional care of us and was incredibly attentive and kind, especially with my daughters. It was their first time dining at Mastro’s, and she made sure it was an experience they’ll always remember. Mayra’s customer service was outstanding as well. My mother was with us, and when my phone was about to die, Mayra went out of her way to help find a way to charge it. That level of thoughtfulness and genuine care really stood out. From the moment we arrived, Charles greeted and seated us with professionalism and warmth. He was very cordial and welcoming and set the tone for a great evening right away. I dine at other Mastro’s locations regularly, but the service here in Chicago was truly exceptional. Being away from home and celebrating a special moment with my daughters, they couldn’t have made it any more memorable. Thank you to the entire Mastro’s Chicago team for an unforgettable experience.

Me and my husband were just here on Jan 3rd. My birthday, this happened to be my favorite restaurant to go to, to celebrate my birthday, this specific night must’ve been busy. Everything felt rushed, the waitress was rushing us so much that I didn’t get a chance to take a picture of the menu that said happy birthday, when I asked her for the menu back, she got offended and stated they can’t find it, they must’ve thrown it away so now they’re looking in the garbage for it. I looked at her and said wow, never mind. After her weird comment she finally came back and told me we have plenty printers they’re going to print you a new one. I didnt receive the menu until after the bill came. However moving on to the food our food was not satisfying at all. we ordered crab/mash, cream of spinach, white cheddar Mac and cheese/crsb, & Brussels sprouts. I had the rack of lambs, and my husband had a steak (his steak was amazing) as soon as I got my lambs I told them to cook them more because they were bleeding ALOT I asked for medium well done and they looked like medium rare. The Mac and cheese noodles were hard like it had been sitting out too long so we had to eat the inside of the Mac and cheese not the top, the spinach did not taste like anything but butter and cheese we added salt and pepper, the Brussels sprouts tasted like plain cabbage and the crab mash was watery. We did not complain because it was my birthday and we didn’t want an issue, I did ask them to cook my lamb some more and they did with no problem. We spoke to a lady at the end of the night about the food (she was a manager) she seemed concerned however she kept justifying and making excuses why the Mac maybe got hard because of conversation lol we were like Huh? She also went on asking us why we don’t complain so we can get something better, & we stated we didn’t want to be a problem because all the sides were unpleasant, she gave us her card and said if you ever come back please reach out to me and I’d love to see your food when it comes out, basically to verify what it looks like. Smh we left that night with so many boxes of left overs. We didn’t finish any of the dishes because I chose to take it home to re cook it. Any time we spend $400 I shouldn’t have to recook anything, I’ve never had a bad experience from Mastro’s but this time around I’m sure we won’t be returning.

Nye review… I’m still very taken back by how the events unfolded last night. My date & I enjoyed a wonderful dinner served by Amber & other table attendants. Although all of that changed towards the end of the night whenever I took myself to the ladies room. I was expecting a bathroom attendant considering the rest of the experience was 5STAR. I walked into the bathroom (no line) & turned around to shut/lock the door behind me & I was bombarded with a crazy lady trying to shove her way into the single bathroom I was in. I explained to her it was a single toilet & I would be out in one minute. From the moment I shut the door this crazy woman was HITTING the door & yelling profanities and threatening assault. I assumed SOMEONE (ANYONE) from the restaurant would notice & come to my rescue before I had to open the door. (This was a posh place with plenty of staff causally walking around) unfortunately no one came & I had to open the door to this crazy lady so I could exit the bathroom & end this hostage situation. I immediately went to my table (right next to the bathroom) & explained to my server the threats that were made by the other guest. Amber spoke up & said that she heard something going on but was too busy to see what exactly was unfolding. From there my date and I moved to the bar because the manager Kim said she didn’t even know where the lady went or which table she was at. At this point I was sketched out by the entire place. I was told that the security had been made aware of the harassment but that simply didn’t seem like enough at all considering my life was just threatened by a guest. Everything was brushed under the rug. A full blown assault was happening in the bathroom & no one seemed to even care. How could this place not have a bathroom attendant? Very shocking. Coat check, security at the door, live band, multiple managers and ZERO BATHROOM attendant to prevent guests from being bombarded with threatening situations like the one I experienced. Don’t go to this place if you care about how your women or children are treated.

We returned to Mastro’s Steakhouse Chicago after many years, our last visit being pre-COVID, and unfortunately the experience was a noticeable decline. Previously, the tomahawk steak was perfectly cooked, well seasoned, and excellent. This time, it was extremely rare despite ordering medium-rare, completely unseasoned, and difficult to cut. For a signature steak at this price point, this was very disappointing. The overall atmosphere also felt different. We were seated in the bar area next to a very loud table, and there appeared to be no dress code among patrons, which took away from the refined dining experience Mastro’s was once known for. Service was inconsistent, as we were skipped over multiple times, which was especially frustrating since we were on a tight schedule to attend Phantom of the Opera. Staff presentation also felt far more casual than expected for a high-end steakhouse. The butter cake was not the same as we remembered from years ago. The flavor and texture were different and lacked the rich, buttery quality it once had. Overall, the quality of the food, service, and refinement has declined since our previous visit and no longer justifies the premium pricing. Mastro’s used to feel like a special dining experience, and this visit did not reflect that standard.

The restaurant is exquisite, service impeccable and the food outstanding, with some exceptions. We loved the Sea bass and the Salmon dishes that had generous size fish and the chef provided peppercorn sauce and garlic lemon sauce for the two respective dishes upon request that elevated the dishes even further. Thank you chef! However the Wagu sushi was beyond disappointing. Would rank it as the worst sushi ever. Rice with asparagus were the only ingredients aside from the hot pepper having no trace of wagu or any scent of meat/ steak - avoid and you will thank me Unfortunately we finished with a 5 layer chocolate cake that comes in a tower shape meant for 4-6 people, perhaps, yet with no dessert refinement. Would definitely try something else In summary, we would come back again for the Sea Bass and maybe Steak
