I’m a lifelong Jewel customer and this store has made me quit the brand all-together. This Jewel is a terrible, awful excuse for a grocery store. The store director, Kimberly Johnson, has destroyed a once functioning grocery store, and has turned it into a dirty, unorganized snack shop with horrible produce selection and purposeful bait and switch tactics revolving around “for you” sale items. Employees have told me she purposefully orders less of the sale items so customers are forced to buy regular priced goods. I have seen her berate staff on multiple occasions as well has cough and sneeze on food items. For example, I was told she ordered a single case of on-sale chicken thighs when the other nearby locations ordered many dozens. Fruits and veggies advertised for sale, are conveniently missing each and every day. There are two entrances on Southport, yet one has been closed, turning the other remaining entrance into a major fire hazard. Now there is a single door for ALL patrons. This is also where she has decided to keep every single shopping cart in the store. Sometimes there is barely room to enter because of the crowd of carts at the door. Not only that, this is also where people are forced to unload their full cart after checking out. One night I saw someone attempt to run into this Jewel to avoid getting jumped, but they ran to the door that says “not an entrance” and I was horrified as they were beaten by a large group. It’s astonishing how quickly one person can destroy an entire neighborhood grocery store, and it’s clear Jewel corporate does not care. I tell every single neighbor who will listen that this is the worst grocery store in the city. Stay away from this awful place and buy your groceries literally anywhere else.

The mens bathroom smells like fermented urine. Clean your bathrooms and stop being lazy. You should reply to my review from your bathroom! Let me know what you think.

I have shopped at this Jewel-Osco for over a decade, and the decline under the current management, specifically MANAGER KIM, has been undeniable. The store now keeps only one entrance open, which appears to be a theft-prevention tactic. Not only does this create constant congestion, but it’s also a serious safety concern. I once witnessed someone trying to escape a mugging outside the locked second door and they could not get inside for help. A grocery store should never contribute to a dangerous situation like that. This location has essentially become a glorified snack shop. Fresh produce regularly goes bad the same day you buy it. Sale items promoted in the Jewel app are rarely stocked, and multiple employees have shared that MANAGER KIM orders extremely limited quantities, sometimes only a single case, so customers can’t actually take advantage of promotions. After being told for the third time that the sale item “never arrived” here, it feels less like bad luck and more like a refusal to serve the community fairly. I’ve personally witnessed MANAGER KIM speak to employees in a harsh and unprofessional way, which creates an uncomfortable atmosphere for customers and staff alike. The store is consistently out of basic essentials, morale is visibly low, and the shopping experience has become exhausting. I have never taken the time to write a negative review for any business, especially not a grocery store, but you can only buy moldy berries so many times before enough is enough. This has truly become the worst Jewel in the city, and I can only hope corporate steps in to improve the conditions that the neighborhood has to live with.

This store allows non-service animals in constantly. The animals are in carts, drooling on produce, and harassing customers. Per staff it seems that they are dissuaded from doing anything by upper management. Reminder to the general public that ESAs are NOT SERVICE ANIMALS! They are not protected and are not permitted in public spaces that other dogs would not be. These non-service animals are accidents waiting to happen on top of being a health code nightmare. If you have a service animal it is not safe for you to bring it here. I was unable to use the online webform to submit a comment so it will be done here publicly instead.
