My experience was one for the books, I don’t say this often, but if I could choose my bartenders for my visit to a steakhouse, it would be Claire and Kate any day of the week. Those 2 were amazing, kind, and very helpful with the menu as it was my first time in. The quality shined through the food and drinks, and it left me excited for my second visit to Hawksmoor Chicago. This place is the whole package, will definitely be back. P.S. The managers Craig (who’s work ethic really stood out, he never stopped moving!) and Jonty (great mustache, we chatted about Cricket, sorry about England’s L!) were amazing! Ask for them, always so kind and hospitable!

one of the worst dining experiences i’ve had in chicago and ill never be back. servers get orders incorrect all the time, and that’s never an issue for me. but when they try to charge for the extra steak that’s a completely different issue and so unethical. not to mention there was a rowdy and disruptive patron who was disrupting the entire room, literally yelling and chanting, and never asked to leave. then asking for the bill added another hour. when we said “sir, can we please have the bill, we’ve asked 4 times” our server came over and rudely flipped the bill on our table. truly a horrible experience and a case study on how not to be hospitable or properly handle customer service. i will never be back

Main drawback was the service. Everyone was nice and trying their best but it seemed like they were not able to handle how busy it was. We were seated late and the food was slow to come out. The appetizers were delicious. The steak was good but nowhere near the same category as other steakhouses in Chicago (Maple and Ash, Bavettes, Boefhaus). The martinis we asked for dirty did not have any olive juice in them and the olives had pits. Nobody asked how we liked our drinks. When we asked for sourdough the waiter said “sorry we’re out” and rushed away without offering any alternative. Not a big deal but with those prices we would expect much better service/attention. It was also our anniversary which we noted in our reservation but nobody acknowledged it. By the end we just wanted to leave and decided to forget dessert. Not worth the amount of money we spent, wouldn’t recommend.

I just can't with this place. Our experience was so bizarre it would have been funny if it wasn't six hours and 900 dollars later.
Hawksmoor: we GET the whole like English elitist school of business, trust us, we get it you guys. But here's the thing, you have to pick ONE THING to deliver on. If you're going to use an entire side of your menu to brag about yourselves and your legacy (and openly insult your customers, by the way -- maybe reread that cheeky first paragraph on your guys weird as hell "alphabet" copy as a patron, or just hope your patrons don't, idk), then you need to have a legacy or name recognition or something that we can attach onto without first being told that we're not cool enough for it. I get that Halksmoor is not American founded, but if you're not going to bring whatever made you guys great from over there over here and do it just as good, it ain't gonna work -- and it doesn't.
If you miss on that mark, no big deal, just make good consistent food, and don't hassle people about how good it is and how long it takes and then expect them to not be confused when, an hour or so later you under deliver in almost every aspect and then get mad when people ask questions or aren't like anything but super grateful to you, that's ridiculous. Tonight, my husband and I both ordered a filet, his was ok, mine was def not a filet (might have been a rump? Idk? When I asked about it the busser was defensive and claimed it was without looking at it, oy 😬) and was actually so salty I couldn't eat it, and didn't. As was the spinach, as were the fries, they actually salt burned my throat. The table next to us had complained so much about their experience that we felt bad saying anything, and just had the server take the food away. She either didn't notice or didn't care that most of it wasn't touched. Also, I'm pretty sure you served my dad the saddest hamburger I've ever seen.
IMO, pick ONE: unwarranted, excessive brand aggrandizing, at best "meh" and at worst totally inedible food, small (even in context!) portions, high prices, or bad service. Hell, pick two.
But you can't do them all.
And you DEFINITELY can't serve all that up with an attitude, two hours later, plopped in the center of a white cafeteria plate ungarnished and under considered and expect a parade. My guess -- all that parade throwing you seem to be doing for yourselves might be the only kind you get 😮, so maybe hang on to that.
Just my thoughts.
Best, Madeline
P.s. please don't attempt to school me with a response about how uncultured and uninformed I am and just accept the free feedback, thx!
I’ll start and say that the servers graciously comped part of our meal, but overall the experience was a bit of a let down. We ordered 2 steaks medium and medium rare, the medium rare one came out more done than the medium one. They did remake it and the second one was good, but they didn’t come check on the steaks for a good 5-10 minutes after setting down the food. They also forgot an item. The table next to us received their sides well after their steak and overheard them complain about lack of service. I’ve never been to a higher end steakhouse and not have the server immediately have you check how your steak was cooked. We did wait another 20 minutes or so for the remade steak. Then our forgotten item came out 5 minutes or so after that. I do appreciate the gesture of comping the steak but overall we didn’t get super quality service. We also waited quite a long time for our food to come out after ordering.
