  There chopped salad is always amazing and the best chocolate cake ever. I'm one of the few people that isn't impressed with their hotdogs, but I am a Chicago old neighborhood girl. Those corner hot dog stands are hard to beat.

  I tried to call about the fact that I had food poisoning from eating a hot dog at your restaurant, and when someone answered the phone I told them I would like a refund for getting sick. All they said was "you were sick after eating the food?" When I responded with yes, they just left me on hold until the phone hung up. Maybe if you guys actually handled the situation with care I wouldn't have to leave such a low review on google. Now thanks to you I'm bed ridden today and couldn't go to work.

  Placed an online order that was over $100 and was told at pickup that everything was in the bag and after getting home found that a complete meal, and 3 cheese fries were not in the bag. I called the store and was told that I could drive 15 minutes back and pickup my items or get a refund for only the items missing. I am not looking for a full refund, but if I was the manager I would have offered half off the order, or if I drove the 15 minutes there AND back, I could pick up my missing items plus a $10 or $20 dollar gift card for the inconvenience... very poorly handled...

  I did a catering order. The package I bought was the small beef, pasta and salad package. It supposedly feeds 8 to 10 people. More like extra small package. I bought it last year and the difference this year is heinous. The price went up about 11 dollars. And the portions oh man what a joke. Look at the salad. It looks like the salad you would get if you bought their chopped salad for one person. I guess this was meant to feed Liliputians. The beef also is spread in this tray to make it look like it is a full tray. It isn't. Amd what do you do last minute when you wanted to have this for a holiday meal? It is totally pathetic. Never again will I do Portillos catering. I am sure management would tell me that it is due to rising costs and I could always pay more for the large package to get basically what I got last year. I also did their survey and asked to be contacted. I am not holding my breath for that.

For YEARS, we ordered Portillo’s catering for every major event: • Graduations • Birthday parties • Holiday gatherings • 4th of July • Big family meals We’d cater it a few times a year, and that doesn’t include the several Friday nights a month where Portillo’s was the automatic dinner choice. Everyone used to get excited when Portillo’s was on the table. Now? We don’t even consider it. That’s how far the quality has dropped. ⸻ ⭐ The Drive-Thru That Used to Be a Chicago Battlefield Portillo’s drive-thru used to look like the Dan Ryan at rush hour — both lanes packed, wrapped around the building, chaos in the best way. This time? Empty. Not a single car. A Portillo’s with no line feels like a glitch in the universe. ⸻ ⭐ The “Extra Dipped” Beef That Wasn’t Even Dipped in Air I ordered a Big Beef, EXTRA DIPPED. What I got looked like it had been air-dried in a basement. No au jus. No giardiniera oil. A bun so dry it could be used as packing material. Beef that crumbled like old notebook paper. “Extra dipped” means the sandwich should SQUISH and drip almost causing a waterfall when you pick it up. There should be a puddle of jus in the wrapper. Your hands should glisten like you just fixed an engine. Instead, I got a sandwich that looked like it had a restraining order against gravy. ⸻ ⭐ Giardiniera Oil: Missing in Action Chicagoans KNOW: Giardiniera should be swimming in oil. My peppers looked like they were waiting for FEMA relief. ⸻ ⭐ The Beef & Cheddar Croissant — RIP to a Chicago Legend This sandwich used to be a delicacy. A buttery, melty, beefy masterpiece. Now it tastes like someone copied the recipe from memory after getting hit with a 16-inch softball. A total fall from grace. ⸻ ⭐ The Hot Dog Would Start a Fight in Any Chicago Neighborhood Portillo’s hot dogs used to slap every single time. This one? Rubbery. Chewy. Dry. Like it was boiled last week and reheated under a heat lamp today. Even the bun looked like it wanted no part of this. ⸻ ⭐ And Then… The Perks Program Here’s the truth: Portillo’s never needed a Perks program. People used to (exaggerated but true) drive across the country for a Portillo’s beef. Nobody ever said, “I hope I get points for this sandwich.” The food was the perk. They rolled out Perks exactly when the quality dipped — and the app even told me: “Usage restricted to North America.” Buddy, I’m in Illinois. If I were any more “North America,” I’d be a cornfield. ⸻ ⭐ Final Verdict Portillo’s has gone from a family tradition to a place we actively avoid. We won’t be back. In fact we stopped going years ago. Buona Beef and mom-and-pop spots blow Portillo’s away right now — they still know what “extra dipped” actually means. Portillo’s didn’t just decline — it collapsed harder than the Bears in the fourth quarter. Chicago deserved better than this.
