On Monday, the "CHEEP CHICKEN" day, decided to benefit from the lower price on this day... and while waiting to be served, the power went out and it was flickering on and off putting the whole store into darkness. While the power was out, I felt that should not prevent them from opening the chicken window to place 8 pieces of chicken into the bag. I was told that no chicken could be served while there was a power outage which made no sense to me unless the glass door to the chicken is kept locked and can only be opened electronically like power windows to a car? Anyway, I was very patient to wait a while there until the power was restored and did not leave because of that. I asked if I could get no thighs and the person serving said no or denied my simple request for no thighs even using what I perceived as a microaggression term based on certain attributes toward me. I ignored all of that and the earlier inconveniences and accepted what was placed in the bag. I went to go to pay for the chicken and only to discover there was a line of people wating to make their purchases at the self-checkout lanes. Perhaps due to the earlier power surges and outages, it affected their cash registers and people were waiting extraordinarily long times just to get to a station to scan their items for purchases. I waited long enough throughout these inconvenient experiences and insults until it just seemed the check out line was not going to move any quicker. So I decided to just leave the chicken in the shopping cart and depart the store. Also considering I braved the windy weather and rain and elements to come to the store. For me this was all 4 strikes 1) braving the elements to enter the store 2) enduring, waiting through several power surges and outages for the chicken 3) Not being able to be served the chicken during the power outage 4) The person selecting the chicken not honoring my request of no thighs & how to interpret what i perceived as a microaggression made by the person choosing the chicken then 5) Having to wait again a long time just to purchase the chicken at the self-checkout registers. So based on all of that, it was time to go as maybe God was telling me during the initial power outages not to get chicken from this place and go somewhere else. I left the chicken in the cart and exited the store giving a few reasons why (mainly the no thighs request not being acknowledged) and went to another Jewel to get the chicken for less as there it was Cheeper chicken day for $4.99.

When I first moved to this neighborhood I tried shopping here but I discovered that the fruit and vegetables are mainly rotten so I stayed away. After acquiring a gift card I attempted to shop there again and what a mistake that was just about every fruit or vegetable stack was rotten black spots on the oranges mold growing under the onions etc The fruit and vegetables here are horrible not to mention triple the price of their competitors now I frequent other jewels and I do not have this problem for instance the Jewel on Ogden avenue and Downers Grove is picture perfect Of course it's in a more affluent neighborhood and that could be the reason but I wouldn't feed the fruit or vegetables from this Jewel to a pile of insects they should be ashamed of theirselves for the prices they charge

Sitting on hold for 20 minutes to conncet to pharmacy. Seemingly overworked and understaffed if no one can pick up the phone in that duration.

Good selection and cashiers are nice. My issue is that very single time I’m here some or many of the items I’ve found are expired. This has happened a million times, most especially with items on sale. If it’s on sale, make sure it isn’t already expired. Good selection here but hate that shopping takes twice as long when you have to hunt for the dates to see if you’re being sold old food. I never have this issue at other jewels (e.g. orchard in Oswego). So maybe other local jewels send expired food to their galena location cause I’m not sure why this issue plagues this location when finding expired food is a one-off elsewhere.
