Every year I keep hoping maybe the recipe changed and it might be good… I have to say that the flavor is rough. Like it has flavors that just do not belong in a summer sausage. I looked at the ingredients, and once you get past preservatives one of the first ingredients is soy sauce. No wonder it’s so odd tasting. It has a flavor very similar to a slim Jim. Big time. It’s overly processed, and too dense as well. The first flavor notes that hit me are soy sauce and citrus… I almost thought it was a ton of apple cider vinegar at first. It has literally nothing that I’ve ever enjoyed in anything that called itself a summer sausage. It’s barely peppery, it almost has flavors verging on something Asian that definitely shouldn’t exist. I’ve received maybe 5 by this point, so I figured I’d say something. Do people actually enjoy this product? They don’t report anything off about it? I can’t believe that. In short: Ditch the soy sauce and use salt, it’s summer sausage! What’s the deal with the citrus? Where’s the pepper? Back off a bit on grinding it into such a paste before extruding it. Let it have a texture that doesn’t feel like plastic.
