Not what we expected and a letdown from what used to be a favorite.
Beautiful view and excellent service, but the food and atmosphere missed the mark. The ahi poke was disgusting and Calamari was nothing special. Our entrées arrived with cold mashed potatoes, and after they were reheated, the fish was overcooked. The scallops were cooked well, but the asparagus was tough, and the risotto was overwhelmed with edible flowers, which detracted from the flavor.
Our kids waited over 75 minutes for a simple pasta dish.
The dining room felt overcrowded, loud, and windy with fans running. The live guitar player was completely drowned out by the noise.
We understood the prix fixe pricing, but were surprised by an additional 10% kitchen fee on top of the gratuity. The bill was over $350 for two prix fixe meals and two children’s meals, with just one beverage per person — the value didn’t align with the experience.
The warm rolls, salted butter, and our attentive server were the highlights. I’d recommend the golf course or drinks at the bar, but would skip dinner.

Went to dinner last night. The bartender was one of the worst bartenders I’ve ever experienced. I asked for three different drinks and he said he couldn’t make them. They were very basic drinks that any bar should be able to make. Then our table ordered an Ole Fashioned, a tequila sour and a tequila espresso martini. The Old Fashioned was clear in color, the tequila sour was a margarita and the tequila espresso martini was awful! The bartender obviously needs to be trained on how to make drinks correctly. Now for food, they had a holiday menu going and it was $90 per person. Two people at my table ordered the catch of the day. The fish was overdone and dry and the rice wasn’t fully cooked. Management needs to do a better job. This is too upscale of a restaurant to have this bad of an experience. My group was very disappointed. We eat at the Plantation House once per year and have had good experiences in the past.

We arrived 12/28 for our anniversary. Upon arriving, the hosts were extremely hospitable and even changed our table to an even better one with the best view of the house. Props to them! Bussers promptly greeted us and filled our waters. Which was also nice to see. We had Andrew as our server and my husband immediately felt weirded out by his service. He would talk for a bit then oddly walk off without saying anything, meanwhile families around us were having full on conversations with Andrew. We thought he was just busy but obviously, seemingly he had time to have full on conversations with the rest of the white families. We are Filipino locals who have visited Kapalua Plantation house regularly for special occasions. We found it odd as the service went further he was continuously dismissive. We came to the conclusion it was because we weren’t white and we were two men celebrating our anniversary. Another instance is where he oddly laughed when we kindly asked for our waters replaced because of the flies in them where he replied “you’re in Hawaii it’s expected” as he walked off. We’re locals so we know it’s expected but this is a fine dining restaurant where we have never been met with this kind of passive aggressiveness from a server here.
The last instance of our server being odd was how he passed the POS system for us to pay and said “to tap a button.” He then continued to hover over us EYEING our tip option, making sure we tipped. We tipped regardless of the odd aura and behavior of our server. We wished that that tip would go directly to the kitchen, hostesses, and the bussers as we found them more hardworking than our dismissive and odd server.
Food wasn’t as good as last year, maybe there are new chefs. Shrimp scampi was watery and barely had seasoning. My husband’s filet mignon was NOT well done and was medium rare. He lost his appetite and instead ate my food instead. Luckily I liked it MR. Atmosphere and the sunset view was the highlight!! All in all 3/5 for Food, 5/5 for Atmosphere, 2/5 for Service.

Excellent food excellent service. The regular coffee is soo good, I call it resort coffee, stronger than most and smooth. It’s nice to get a professional coffee, extra beans, less water, fresh. Other places (most) are watered down and weak. Of course the food is great but I truly look forward to that coffee.

This was my second visit to The Plantation House. The food, service and ambiance are top notch. The views are spectacular and we enjoyed a beautiful sunset while enjoying our dinner.
Now dinner, last time I had the macadamia crusted mahi mahi and this time I had the catch of the day - sea bass. It was extraordinary and we all left full and incredibly satisfied with a wonderful evening. I enjoyed their Mai tai which was a favorite during my time on the island.
This is definitely a 5 star recommendation all around.
