- JUJohnny Utah4 days ago3.0Hi. We’ve been on the big island 10 days now and have had almost all good experiences. The two bad experiences happened right here in Safeway but not to us. Your employee Corrie reallly needs help over there in the self checkout or you need to do some corrective coaching- or both! We have overheard her just ripping into locals for doing things like pushing the wrong button while trying to load $400 on a card or for attempting to purchase a gift certificate when they can’t be purchased here. She is just very short tempered and talks down to them. Additionally, on both occasions separate shoppers have just left their purchases on the self checkout machines because they are done waiting for age verification or whatever else she is supposed to be responding too.

Growing up Kona Safeway was always our families go-to and Safeway in general has always been my place for scrumptious baked goods and a generally low stimulant shopping experience. After moving into this brand new, massive, location Kona Safeway lost all of what made it great to me. It now feels like any old warehouse styled store, BRIGHT, HUGE & spread out, overwhelming and overall not very pleasent. I guess this is the direction the Safeway company is taking all their stores and I have to say once the Hilo and all other Safeways I come across sport this "new" look Ill be officially turned off from the brand. Lost what made them great for sameness and an overstimulating environment...if I wanted a massive confusing and overpriced store I would rather choose Fred Meyer but since we're in the islands and have very few options Ill stick with Walmart for massive & overstimulating but hey at least their at the right price! Kona Safeway BLEGGHHH. Hell even the shopping center it sits in is UGLY I shouldve known what Id be stepping into 👎🏽👎🏽

Some people are waiting 30 or more minutes just to pay for their groceries. Ice cream is literally puddling on the floor while the manager makes adjustments to the location of the dippin’ dots case.
