Great ramen. Service was not willing to accommodate pregnant woman dietary restrictions - unable to have a hard boiled egg served instead of a soft boiled egg, and our server wouldn’t even ask the chef on our behalf. No modifications to menu, no exceptions. This has not happened to me at any other ramen place! Crazy.
Visiting Momosan in Waikiki on a cool, rainy night definitely hit the spot for comfort, though the meal itself left us with mixed feelings. We found the Tonkotsu ramen to be quite heavy, and it really could have used more bean sprouts or bamboo shoots to provide some much-needed crunch and lightness. The preserved mustard greens were an interesting topping choice, but ultimately they felt a bit salty and didn't add much to the overall flavor profile. Unfortunately, the vegan miso ramen missed the mark for us as well, tasting far too salty due to a very heavy hand with the miso paste. Seaweed salad and edamame app were good though. While the atmosphere was cozy for the weather, the flavor imbalances mean we likely wouldn't choose to go back again. On a positive note, our waitress was incredibly helpful and kind, providing excellent service that made the evening much more pleasant. Even though the food didn't quite live up to our expectations, the warm hospitality was a bright spot in our dining experience. Overall, it served its purpose for a rainy evening, but there are better ramen options to explore in Honolulu.
The ribs and soft shell crab bun were delightful and we highly recommend these items. The soup was a bit on the salty side for traditional Japanese Ramen.
Unfortunately, when we came here in December 2025, one of the staff members was very rude and behaved oddly. Our family was confused with the menu and how the Momosan Set worked. When we inquired and asked clarifying questions, our waiter grew visibly impatient and scoffed/laughed at us multiple times while speaking in a condescending tone. He rushed us into ordering as if he was busy, but not soon after spent an absurd amount of time chatting up a pair of young female customers. He asked them about personal information and invited them to an event. This all took place at the table right next to us. Later, he delayed the fetching of our bill to continue to chat with the ladies.
Was really looking forward to this spot, but it ended up being a letdown. The tonkotsu broth was super greasy and didn’t have that rich, comforting flavor you want. It just felt heavy without actually tasting that good.
The noodles tasted not fresh at all, and had that slightly mushy texture instead of a nice bite. Honestly made the whole bowl worse.
The pork didn’t look great either. It had this rubbery look to it, and I didn’t even feel like trying it.
Not really sure how this place has so many good reviews. Maybe I just went on a bad day, but yeah, not impressed.
My son and I visited here earlier this afternoon. There was maybe 10 people seated, most with plates in front of them, so not too busy. Backdrop - my son has been in love with sushi for the last two or three years(he’s not even a teenager yet) and I am an avid true ramen lover.. I noticed this place had Iron Chef Masaharu Morimotos name on the place so I hyped my 12 year old up, explained the backdrop of this chef and how great the sushi would be, as well as the ramen, but he was much more interested in eating sushi by the beaches of Waikiki. Here’s how that went - I ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen and sticky ribs package($33), my son ordered the 5 piece sashimi/sushi and a roll package($39).The waitstaff we had informed me that the 5 piece and a roll was “chefs choice”..ok no problem! It’s got Morimotos name on it- how great could this be!? The waitstaff brought both items quickly. Upon initial sight, the sashimi sitting atop the rice mounds was dry, old and clearly pre plated maybe yesterday(seriously, the sashimi and sushi looks better at Amazon fresh at 6pm). We had to request the spicy sauce as that was clearly an afterthought when assembling these AHEAD OF TIME. How do you screw up so bad when your sand bagging these plates? Let’s move on to my Tonkatsu Ramen- it was ok at best. The broth is cooked no more than 3 hours maybe in a pressure cooker situation. Cloudy yes- creamy not at all. My chashu pork was super cold- probably should’ve been brought to temp in the broth- but again, an after thought. The egg- drained and sad. The cuts were summer cuts, summer this size and summer that size..excution sucked. Here’s the thing.. I grew up in kitchens and remember when chef cared about their names. Clearly this chef is washed up and sold out because tonight’s dinner with my child was terrible. We get better sushi and ramen in the Chicagoland area for 1/3 of the price. I wouldn’t normally roast a restaurant this hard, but when I lose all credibility with my son regarding food, it greatl offends me, as a chef and a father. You guys need to get it together and start serving quality food. For $102 fo a crappy sushi deal and a bowl of boiled cloudy pork stock with noodles that taste no better than some fresh noodles you’d find at any H mart, y’all are robbing folks out here. Do yourself a favor and pass on this place. It’s a gimmick and the name morimoto is trash at this point. There are far better options for fresh fish, and ramen. you’re throwing money away here. No joke. Oh, I forgot to tell you about the sticky ribs..the only thing memorable were the chili threads that acted more as pubes on the ribs. Get better garnishes or just remove the dish. It’s an after thought, much like most of the prep and care that goes into this food.
