  Waikiki is a place defined by its warmth—not just the tropical sun, but the spirit of Aloha that travelers fly thousands of miles to experience. Unfortunately, at this particular McDonald’s, that warmth is relegated entirely to the ambient temperature. It is a masterclass in the clinical efficiency of automation, stripped of every ounce of human connection. ​The experience is a stark reminder of what happens when a brand leans too heavily on its iconic name and prime real estate. You walk in expecting the familiar hustle of a counter crew, but instead, you are greeted by silence and a row of glowing kiosks. There are zero people to take an order. No "Aloha," no eye contact, and—infuriatingly—no one to answer a simple question. It feels less like a restaurant and more like a high-traffic vending machine. ​Inside, the atmosphere was stiflingly hot, as if the air conditioning had surrendered to the sheer volume of customers. The crowd was thick, the demand was high, and the infrastructure was clearly buckling under the pressure. In a surreal twist of irony, this location managed to be out of bottled water—an oversight that feels almost negligent in the middle of the tropics. ​To the management: you have the location and you have the brand, but you have forgotten the people. Relying on kiosks to do the work of a welcoming staff has left this store feeling hollow. Efficiency is a virtue, but not at the expense of basic hospitality and essential inventory.

  Service was fine in spite of the growing tree of people and birds in the restaurant. They got all four of our burgers wrong, and our coffee was cold.

  I felt scared. Lots of homeless hanging in there and a few screaming between the homeless and security. It didn't feel right in there eating.

  Marie yelled at me on the street, telling me to get off her side of the sidewalk. Pushing her arms out and yelling. I had just bought something so I went back in and asked to speak with her, person-to-person, to see what was going on. She pushed my coffee towards me, almost knocking it over. Telling me I was trying to “start something” with her. She almost knocked over a customer on her way back into the kitchen as well. She forcibly pulls the manager over, whispering in her ear about me, and the manager looks at me and goes, “What do you want me to do about it?” It’s the older female manager, Asian with chin length hair. She asked where the yelling happened and basically shrugged and sent me on my way. This is my last day in Hawaii and I can’t believe the way I was treated. Do better.

  Minus one star for prices. A $17 sausage w/egg mcmuffin meal was crazy, I think it might be $6 something back home. Incredibly fast and curtious McDonalds. We enjoyed how close you were to our Hotel. Tasted like home, didn't try the Hawaiin flare. I think a full breakfast at Waikiki Ihop was the same $17+. Great staff! Thank you!
