Lovely pub, friendly staff and good atmosphere. We came for Sunday lunch and were looked after by Freya, who made us feel very welcome.

Being local to the Owl, we have always enjoyed good food and we go there often. The bar girls and waitresses are very friendly and give great service, however, when they are busy with other customers it would be really nice if one of them sung out to us ( I will be with you shortly) or some such thing, just to acknowledge our presence. We read on your google page that you serve meals until 9.00pm on Saturdays, last evening we came into the Owl at 8.15pm only to be told that the kitchen was closed, we were so disappointed. The pub definitely wasn't busy and we saw food coming out of the kitchen to a table in the restaurant....it won't stop us coming again as the food is excellent.

I had previously stopped here for a beer en route back from the coast and after seeing other patrons food come out, decided that I would return to try the food. I live an hour away from the pub but I deemed it worth it to return. After doing a country walk myself and my brother headed to the pub. We were warmly welcomed, grabbed a drink each and awaited the opening of the kitchen. Having previously scoped out the menu we already knew what we wanted and awaited eagerly for the kitchen to be open. We opted for the 3 starters for £19.95, I got the burger and my brother the ham hock with all the trimmings. The starters were fantastic, the pork belly being the standout with red chillis and apple sauce. My only (and I mean only very small) issue would have been the chicken tenders being on the flatter side opposed to juicy but it is a very small gripe. The scampi was well breaded and the sauce accompanying it was brilliant. Moving on to the mains, my burger was absolutely fantastic, a real flame grilled taste, brilliant sauce and fresh salad made every bite delectable. The chips were crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. My brother got the ham hock, eggs, huuuge wedges of pineapple, rocket and chips. This meal was equally stupendous. Despite the number of dishes we ordered the food came out in a timely manor and the staff were very friendly. 5 stars would highly recommend. The only other issue is the choice of lagers is lackluster, I opted for an Amstel which isn't awful and much better than madri or cruzcampo.

It's generally a bit expensive but the (small) set lunch with drink at £14.5, is very good value. The food was very well presented with trimmings included (not always found with budget deals).
