We’re best known for our iconic bakes, fresh sandwiches, delicious hot drinks and sweet treats. Over eighty years ago, John Gregg started out with one goal: to deliver (by pushbike) fresh eggs and yeast to the families of Newcastle. Ten years later, he chained up his bike and opened Greggs of Gosforth.
Since then, we’ve opened more and more shops and have become something of a Nation’s sweetheart. Our menu has also changed with the nation’s taste. Long-standing Greggs fans among us may even remember the olden days before the hotly debated Vegan Roll, or our refreshing iced drinks.

I was told the sausage rolls were still in the oven and asked to wait a couple of minutes, which I was happy to do. Five minutes passed with no update. I then saw the sausage rolls come out of the oven and waited to be called, but nothing happened. I waited another five minutes, assuming something else was going on or more were being prepared, but I was still ignored. I eventually had to ask for a sausage roll myself. I was then asked to scan my QR code again for my meal deal voucher and was told it had already been used. I explained that I had already used it earlier and that a different staff member had served me. The worker then appeared confused, as if the previous interaction had been forgotten entirely within minutes. Overall, the staff showed terrible awareness and there is a clear lack of proper training.

We’ve been donating unsold food for a long time. Originally our bakeries would team up with large charities who would help distribute it to smaller organisations.
This process remains in place, though we’ve also worked hard to increase the amount of unsold food donated by our shops and we currently support a network of 1,077 local good causes.
In 2022, we redistributed 1,800 tonnes of unsold food through our Outlet shops. A share of the profits from the outlets, totalling £450,000, was then donated back into the communities we serve.
