About

Bakery
Greggs is a British food to go brand, specialising in fresh bakes, sandwiches, hot drinks and sweet treats. Founded in 1939, Greggs started out selling eggs and yeast by pushbike, ten years later the first shop opened on Gosforth High Street, in Newcastle. Now, over 80 years later Greggs is a household name thanks to their tasty Sausage Rolls, Steak Bakes, Chicken Bakes, Doughnuts, Yum Yums and freshly ground Fairtrade Coffee. With shops across the UK, you're never far away from a Greggs. And with new offerings like Click + Collect and delivery to your door with Just Eat, it's never been easier to get your flakey fix. The Greggs App gives customers tasty rewards every time they shop. From sandwiches to sweet treats, hot drinks and bakes, each time you buy a product, you'll get a stamp. Collect nine stamps in a category, and the tenth item will be free. New customers can also get a free hot drink of their choice, just for downloading the app. The Greggs Foundation aims to build stronger, healthier communities across nine principle programmes including 'The Breakfast Club programme', which helps primary school children get a nutritious start to their school day. Today there are over 680 Breakfast Clubs across the UK, serving wholesome, free breakfasts to around 44,000 children every school day- that's 8.5 million meals a year.

Good, fresh food. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They were incredibly kind to us when we had to spend half a day in the parking lot because our car broke down. We highly recommend this place.

Greggs has become one of the most popular high-street food chains in the UK, and it’s easy to see why. Known for its affordable prices, quick service, and wide selection of pastries, sandwiches, and drinks, Greggs offers a convenient option for people looking for a fast and satisfying meal. One of the biggest strengths of Greggs is value for money. Compared to many coffee shops and takeaway chains, the prices are reasonable while the portion sizes are decent. Their meal deals are especially popular among students and office workers who want a filling lunch without spending too much. The bakery items are the highlight of the menu. The sausage rolls are iconic and remain one of the best-selling products for a reason — flaky pastry with tasty seasoned filling that feels comforting and fresh when served warm. The vegan sausage roll is also surprisingly good, giving vegetarian and vegan customers a solid alternative without compromising on flavour. Greggs has also expanded its menu over the years. Customers can now choose from pizza slices, baguettes, wraps, salads, soups, and sweet treats like doughnuts and cookies. Seasonal items keep the menu interesting, especially during festive periods when special bakes and drinks are introduced. Another positive aspect is convenience. Greggs stores are everywhere, from city centres and train stations to retail parks and motorway services. Service is usually fast, making it ideal for busy mornings or quick lunch breaks. The staff in most branches are friendly and efficient even during busy hours. However, Greggs is not perfect. Food quality can vary depending on the branch and timing. Sometimes hot items are not as fresh or warm as expected, especially during quieter periods. Seating areas in smaller branches can also feel cramped or untidy during peak times. The coffee is decent for the price, though it may not compete with premium café chains in terms of flavour or quality. Still, for a budget-friendly option, it does the job well. Overall, Greggs succeeds because it understands what customers want: affordable, tasty, and convenient food. It may not be a luxury dining experience, but it delivers reliable comfort food that appeals to a wide range of people. Whether you are grabbing breakfast on the go or a quick lunch, Greggs remains a dependable and enjoyable choice.

Frequently Asked Questions About Greggs

What are your opening times?

Opening times for all Greggs shops can be found on our Shop Finder. Just enter your location into the search bar to find opening times, contact details and available facilities.

What happens to your leftover food?

We’ve been donating unsold food for a long time. Originally our bakeries would team up with large charities who would help distribute it to smaller organisations. This process remains in place, though we’ve also worked hard to increase the amount of unsold food donated by our shops and we currently support a network of 1,077 local good causes. In 2022, we redistributed 1,800 tonnes of unsold food through our Outlet shops. A share of the profits from the outlets, totalling £450,000, was then donated back into the communities we serve. We’re no longer taking new applications for end-of-day food donation partners, but we continue to identify regions where our shops could support a local charitable collection.
