  A nice classy coffee shop. Good range of drinks, food and snacks. The milkshakes are next level.

  I popped in around 3.30 today for a coffee and bite to eat - the guy behind the counter was too busy on his phone to notice me and when he finally did and I asked for my order, pointed at the oven and told me the ‘kitchen was closed’ - at least there’s plenty of other places in Newbury with proactive staff and non stupid times of serving already prepared food

  Such a lovely quirky quaint coffee place first time visit and will definitely come back. Polite friendly tidy and toilets are CLEAN!!

  I went in on a whim as I was visiting Newbury with my wife to show it to my parents who are new to the area. I’ll admit it didn’t start perfectly as it isn’t clear if it’s table service or order at the counter but we eventually went to the counter to order and were given a table number. The person who took our order was friendly and efficient. The food selection was good; I had the pesto chicken and nduja sourdough sandwich, two people went for the mushroom melt and one had the very berry pancakes. All enjoyed their food. The coffees were good too. Service was friendly, the drinks arrived quickly followed shortly by the food. Overall we were very happy and would certainly return.

  Have been here a few times and usually very pleased, however upon visiting today I’m not sure I’ll go back. We walked in to see if there was a table available as we had some family joining us. As we walked back up to the counter too look at the food, we were met with a “oh bye then” from the staff, who I guess thought we were leaving. We then looked at the selection of sandwiches, none of which were labelled so I asked a guy what these were. The response was “Sandwiches”. I was left looking at him waiting for a response. “Well you didn’t ask what was in them”. After finally picking what we wanted, I also asked to pay for a coke, met with a “We don’t sell Coke”, while I’m holding the bottle. “We have Coca Cola”. The guy then processed to make similar jokes with his colleagues, one about our order telling another to prep something completely different to what we ordered then saying it was a joke. I’m all for a bit of humour but when it comes across as sarcastic and rude, it’s just bad customer service and unfortunately put us off from returning again. The cafe was empty, and I’m not surprised if this is the level of service Esquires is willing to accept. When the food came, the lettuce in the salad was brown. We were offered a glass and ice but they gave us the smallest glass possible. Just poor.
