- SMSebastian MichalakOct 7, 20261.0⭐ 1/5 Very disappointing experience today between approximately 11:20 and 11:30am. I used the self-checkout and scanned a Monster energy drink, which triggered an age verification request. The screen informed me that a member of staff would come over to authorise the purchase. I then stood there waiting for around 10 minutes. There were three members of staff in the store. Two appeared to be stocking shelves, while another member of staff had previously been talking with a colleague and did not appear particularly busy. Despite staff having headsets and despite me standing at the checkout waiting for assistance, nobody came over to authorise the transaction. My shopping was already scanned and packed, but after standing there for around 10 minutes feeling completely ignored, I eventually left the store without buying anything. The most frustrating part is that this is not the first time this has happened since the store introduced the self-service checkouts. With certain staff working, getting assistance at the checkout seems to be a recurring problem. If customers are expected to use self-checkouts, the store also needs to make sure somebody is actually monitoring them and responding to age-verification requests within a reasonable amount of time. Customers should not have to stand around indefinitely waiting for a member of staff to scan an authorisation card. I have been patient with this happening previously, but today was the final straw. I will be taking my shopping elsewhere from now on. I am leaving this review not just as a complaint, but as clear feedback for management: the self-checkout system only works if staff are actively monitoring it and customers are not simply left standing there waiting to be noticed.
