Policy over comman sense. Went to Tesco to buy a pack of paracetamol with my son of whom is 20 years old.Picked up the pack and both of us went to the self check-out stand to pay. My son got the item scanned and I got my bank card to pay for the item. A notice came up that a shop assistant is required to verify proof of age, fair enough. She came over and asked my son for proof of age even though I had the bank card in my hand to pay for the item. She said because my son had scanned the item he had to prove his age even though I was purchasing the item myself!! My son did not have any ID with him. I did have ID and showed it but she would not have it, even though I was buying the item myself. I even offered to take the item back to the shelf and start the process again with me scanning the item. She wouldn't have it, I had ID with me and in my sixties and I could not buy a pack of paracetamol.!!!!! I walked out in disgust. Policy and common sense should work together. Staff training required?
