I completely understand the Challenge 25 policy and why it’s there, especially if younger people are coming in trying to buy vodka, cider, etc. But there has to be some common sense involved. My partner is 24 and I’m 25. He had his ID with him, but they refused to sell us a bottle of Prosecco with our food shop because I didn’t have mine on me — I’d only brought my phone and left my handbag at home. My boyfriend is 6’5”, has a beard and had valid ID showing he’s 24, so the whole thing felt a bit ridiculous. There was even a man next to us who looked to be well into his 30s being refused Prosecco for a party. It was honestly becoming comical watching adults buying wine or Prosecco with their food shopping being turned away. I understand it’s called Challenge 25, but surely the point is to check people who look under 25, not to ID every adult accompanying someone who is buying alcohol. Never had an experience like it before. A bit of common sense wouldn’t go amiss.
