************************************************** updated/edited review from 3* to 4* following reply from proprietors
- I WASN’T overcharged as I initially reported, but I would never have been able to work that out from just looking at the bill.
- THANK YOU for the explanation which was very prompt and comprehensive 👍
- the fact your pub/restaurant is so busy clearly shows your leading the way in quality and value for money!

Original post:-
We visited as a group of five to celebrate ‘A’ Level results.
We booked the table in advance, which was appropriate due to it being busy and I didn’t see any parties or tables larger than four, whilst we were there.
There is currently a promotional ‘Lunch Club’ menu which advertises food and a drink for £13.50 Monday to Friday.
Three of us ate from the lunch club menu and two from the main menu.
Upon being presented with the bill, I was uncomfortable to study it in detail, as the waitress was standing at my elbow waiting for payment, with the card reader. Full payment was made and a tip given.
On returning home and looking at the bill in detail i see we have been overcharged.
Three steak sandwich meals which should have included two squash drinks, should have been charged as £40.50.
Instead three meals are charged as £41.50 and the two squash drinks charged extra at £3.
The receipt also has a promotional footnote showing a saving of £3.15
***So in brief clearly overcharged by £4 and it is not obvious where any saving of £3.15 has been made*** photos attached
Overall - nice setting, food ok/good, service ‘not-exceptional’.

Disappointing compared to how fantastic it was previously. We really look forward to stopping here for lunch after biking at Cannock Chase. Stopping this visit we ordered what we thought was the same meal as we always have, the steak sandwich (was baguette) and fish finger sandwich. When they came we really were disappointed, the size must have reduced by half, a few chips and no side salad. This pub was an absolute favourite, the food was okay but not a patch on previously, we won’t really be rushing back.
Thank you to the owner for their reply, having looked back at an old menu the choice of having a baguette has been removed (the baguette was our previous option) and it stayed that the sandwiches came with a side salad. The current sandwich only had a farmhouse bloomer option (two small slices of white bread), no side salad and about 10 chips. We did order the sandwich as part of the lunch deal, I’d be interested to know if this is why it was such a small serving compared to previous. The fish finger baguette and steak baguette with a side salad and chips were both absolutely fantastic before being affected by shrinkflation, we were really disappointed having absolutely loved the food previously.
As a party of four, two in our party unfortunately ordered the fish and chips, which was grey, dry, overcooked and not even shaped like a actual fillet, as the wider portion of the fillet was shaped more like two large fingers of batter, containing only a tiny amount of fish.
We would have complained, however nobody came to our table to check if everything was ok. Therefore we decided that it was just easier to never dine there again.
It's a pity, because on the whole, the staff and servers were nice and pleasant. I just wish I could say the same about the food.

The best UK country pub dining experience! One of our group suffers severe immune reaction to gluten and follows a vegan lifestyle. We are local and called in a couple of days before our booking. The chef offered options adapted from the menu and really went the extra mile offering to buy in specially if there was a particular dish we wanted. We were made so welcome by all the team, as if nothing was too much trouble. On the day we asked if they had vegan wine. The team searched their stock and had several options, also promising to review their stock and ensure vegans are well catered for in future. This has never happened anywhere before. Often we have to search through detailed ingredient lists on special allergen menues and getting a flat no to many vegan questions which us feel less than welcome. Not so at The Horns Pub, Slitting Mill. We all had a starter and a main, all beautifully cooked and presented, staff even took a picture of us for me. Such a lovely place, people, atmosphere and food. Going back soon for sure. Thank you for making our evening super special.
