After a discussion with a friend on a long-distance drive, he told me that if he were to be given the electric chair and had a choice of any last meal, it would be a Triple Whopper from Burger King. I was surprised by his choice, as I don't usually like Burger King compared to other fast-food restaurants. Further into our journey, we stopped along the M6 near Burton upon Trent. By some sort of miracle, when we arrived inside, we saw the sign for Burger King. It gave me the opportunity to try Burger King again. Instead of his recommendation of the Triple Whopper, I decided the Wagyu Burger would be a better option. Especially when thinking of our previous conversation referencing a last meal—why not treat yourself to 100% Wagyu beef? After being asked about 20 times by the self-checkout if I wished to add anything to my cart, I was finally able to pay and await my luxury Wagyu beef burger meal (medium). Upon receiving my tray, I was initially surprised by how small the burger was. However, I didn't let this put a negative mark against what could potentially be a meal so good I would want it before being put to death after a hideous crime. I opened the packaging and looked underneath the top bun. What can only be described as looking like 10-day-old fermented salad was the dressing to my burger. I placed the top back on and carried on. The first bite was exactly as expected: awful. The consistency of the burger was as poor as any other burger from Burger King—like compressed foam mixed with a low-quality, supermarket-own-brand wet dog food that's been left to dry out in the service station car park for the afternoon. I personally don't know whether I am more disappointed in the fact that I spent nearly £15 on this Wagyu Burger meal (medium), or that my friend would, on his final night on God's earth, decide to punish himself further by eating a Burger King as his last meal. Finally, the chips had so much salt on them that I half-cured my tongue, which could now be sliced up and sold in the cured meat section of an overpriced farm shop.
