We’re best known for our iconic bakes, fresh sandwiches, delicious hot drinks and sweet treats. Over eighty years ago, John Gregg started out with one goal: to deliver (by pushbike) fresh eggs and yeast to the families of Newcastle. Ten years later, he chained up his bike and opened Greggs of Gosforth.
Since then, we’ve opened more and more shops and have become something of a Nation’s sweetheart. Our menu has also changed with the nation’s taste. Long-standing Greggs fans among us may even remember the olden days before the hotly debated Vegan Roll, or our refreshing iced drinks.

It is disheartening to witness the perpetually sluggish pace, as there is consistently only one individual manning the till. Consequently, if you happen to enter the premises and find yourself third in line, brace yourself for an agonizing 15-minute wait. This unfortunate circumstance has persisted for quite some time, although I have never felt compelled to express my dissatisfaction until now. Regrettably, my recent visit was marred by an additional disappointment. The rolls I purchased not only possessed an off-putting taste, but emitted a rather unpleasant odor as well. To compound matters, these rolls were inexplicably devoid of any butter, which I find utterly perplexing given the exorbitant price I paid. Such a lackluster experience truly borders on the absurd, leaving me questioning the value proposition offered by this establishment.

We’ve been donating unsold food for a long time. Originally our bakeries would team up with large charities who would help distribute it to smaller organisations.
This process remains in place, though we’ve also worked hard to increase the amount of unsold food donated by our shops and we currently support a network of 1,077 local good causes.
In 2022, we redistributed 1,800 tonnes of unsold food through our Outlet shops. A share of the profits from the outlets, totalling £450,000, was then donated back into the communities we serve.
