Greggs is a British food to go brand, specialising in fresh bakes, sandwiches, hot drinks and sweet treats. Founded in 1939, Greggs started out selling eggs and yeast by pushbike, ten years later the first shop opened on Gosforth High Street, in Newcastle. Now, over 80 years later Greggs is a household name thanks to their tasty Sausage Rolls, Steak Bakes, Chicken Bakes, Doughnuts, Yum Yums and freshly ground Fairtrade Coffee. With shops across the UK, you're never far away from a Greggs. And with new offerings like Click + Collect and delivery to your door with Just Eat, it's never been easier to get your flakey fix. The Greggs App gives customers tasty rewards every time they shop. From sandwiches to sweet treats, hot drinks and bakes, each time you buy a product, you'll get a stamp. Collect nine stamps in a category, and the tenth item will be free. New customers can also get a free hot drink of their choice, just for downloading the app. The Greggs Foundation aims to build stronger, healthier communities across nine principle programmes including 'The Breakfast Club programme', which helps primary school children get a nutritious start to their school day. Today there are over 680 Breakfast Clubs across the UK, serving wholesome, free breakfasts to around 44,000 children every school day- that's 8.5 million meals a year.

Usually service is fine, but today I was given a normal sausage roll instead of a vegan one. It was in a vegan sausage roll bag so I had been doubting myself, but I found some grisle about half way through so I took it back. First they told me it was vegan, then I noticed that the meat and vegan pastry actually have different patterns, so I pointed that out. The sever acknowledged that it was meat and must have apologised in passing, but just thrust two vegan sausages rolls in my hands. I didn't really go back for more sausage rolls- I literally don't need them. What I would have appreciated is a sincere apology, and for them to look like they cared enough that I know it won't happen again to another customer. I think the manager needs to speak to their staff about problem resolution. Free products mean nothing if there wasn't a proper apology. I haven't eaten meat in over a decade, so this has been very upsetting for me. Coincidentally I just came across a vegetarian homeless guy, so he was happy to have them. I think that's the one positive thing to come out of this whole experience.

Food from the glass counter is never warm, always luke-warm; cold enough that you'd be unwise to take a breath between bites thinking you have the time to do so before your chicken parcel is unpleasantly chilly.

What happens to your leftover food?
We’ve been donating unsold food for a long time. Originally our bakeries would team up with large charities who would help distribute it to smaller organisations.
This process remains in place, though we’ve also worked hard to increase the amount of unsold food donated by our shops and we currently support a network of 1,077 local good causes.
In 2022, we redistributed 1,800 tonnes of unsold food through our Outlet shops. A share of the profits from the outlets, totalling £450,000, was then donated back into the communities we serve.
We’re no longer taking new applications for end-of-day food donation partners, but we continue to identify regions where our shops could support a local charitable collection. To find out more or nominate an organisation visit: https://www.greggsfoundation.org.uk/unsold-food-donations.
Why do you have different prices regionally?
It is very common for retailers to have regional prices. This is because the costs of running a business can vary across different parts of the country and in certain locations, for example rent costs. We always keep our prices as low as possible for our customers.
