I visited this Subway on 24/06/2026 and was served by the man shown in the attached photo. I have visited this branch before, prior to the introduction of the self-service ordering system, so I approached the counter as usual. I am quite particular about how I like my sandwich prepared, so I typically order the footlong bread, meat and cheese, first on the kiosk, then politely direct staff regarding the salad and toppings. I have never experienced any issues doing this at any Subway location before.
From the beginning of the interaction, this staff member was unnecessarily rude and confrontational. I was polite throughout, using “please” and “thank you” as I always do. I appreciate that the recent hot weather in Manchester may make working conditions more difficult, but that does not justify treating customers in this manner. While preparing my sandwich, he handled it so roughly that it started falling apart. He also refused to add the sauce I requested, claiming I would have to pay extra for it, which I have never been asked to do at any Subway branch before.
After my order was completed, I calmly asked for his name because I intended to raise a complaint regarding his conduct. He refused to provide it and immediately became more aggressive, shouting at me and claiming that I was banned from the store. This is when I took my phone out to take a picture instead to report him since he refused to give me his name. He then began following recording me out the store.
The staff member repeatedly raised his voice and caused a scene to the point where other customers and member of the public commented on his behaviour, with one person even stating that it was “out of order” and urged me to report him to Subway.
I then spoke to another member of staff, who was extremely polite and professional. She kindly agreed to remake my sandwich and did so without any issue. During this time, the original staff member continued shouting at me, telling me to leave the store and swearing at me. He then stormed out of the shop and, when I later exited, I could see him outside on the phone shouting about me & then again started shouting at me when I walked past him.
I have been a Subway customer for many years and have never experienced treatment like this before. The behaviour displayed was unprofessional, intimidating, and completely unacceptable. I would appreciate this matter being investigated and addressed appropriately.
I would also like to make it clear that throughout the entire interaction, I remained calm and respectful. At no point did I swear, raise my voice, or behave aggressively towards the staff member. Despite this, he repeatedly raised his voice at me, shouted across the store, and used inappropriate language. I made every effort to handle the situation politely and reasonably, which makes his behaviour even more disappointing and unacceptable.
