Popped in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon, excellent food, great service, good value. Portion sizes were perfect for lunch, the fish was amazing and the curry sauce and minty mushy peas were absolutely delicious! Just a great pub, will be making regular visits from now on.
Unfortunately, we didn't even make it as far as the food. We arrived and stood waiting without being acknowledged for quite some time, which wasn't a great first impression. Once seated, the place was absolutely boiling with seemingly no fresh air or ventilation and had quite a stale, uncomfortable feel to it.
Then the Guinness arrived warm, with what can only be described as a spectacularly generous head đ For the price of a pint, I'd quite like some cold Guinness in the glass too!
Between the lack of welcome, the uncomfortable atmosphere and the warm pint, we decided not to risk dinner and left. A shame, as we'd booked after seeing the good reviews and were genuinely looking forward to eating here.

Popped in as we were passing all tables reserved but they found one as long as we were finished by 7pm. Which was fine as it was only 4.50pm when we arrived. Lovely Welcome from the lady and man behind the bar. As I have a severe latex allergy airborne and touch they were lovely they checked what gloves are used in the kitchen and they were latex free. So that was great news I could eat there
Wine was really nice good price. I had the steak sandwich which was not what I expected but oh my it was delicious. It was strips of steak on one peice of toasted bread with mustard mayo and some cooked onions on it. Skin On fries were beautiful to
My husband had the club sandwich and he said its one of the best he has ever had. We sat In the garden afterwards and that was a really nice sun trap. Would highly recommend but book a table. Would definitely go there again.
Came here on a quiet week night and sadly was very disappointed. I would describe the service as confused, the staff spent more time discussing loudly between them what was going on with orders / tables than to concentrate on customers. The food was average but none of the dishes stood out as great, some of the flair added to regular menu items didnât lift them above the classics. No water was served to the table and nobody asked how the food was during dining - not even when there was clearly something wrong as most dishes were unfinished at the end. Sadly, I genuinely felt like they didnât care and I was more of a mild inconvenience than a valued customer. The bar was also full of flies which were annoying, there were no fly strips or a zapper out to try and tackle this, before someone says itâs hot at the moment, this was the only pub I went in that was full of flies. Also no goodbye on the way out but by then I kind of knew that wouldnât happen. There are a few other recent reviews picking up on this stuff so maybe they have lost staff, standards have slipped or they are just having an off day - I wish I had read them before coming to be honest it felt like a waste.

A very disappointing experience. We visited as walk-in customers after spending the day at the castle with our children, but from the moment we arrived, the manager made us feel as though we werenât welcome. The service was unfriendly and came across as quite rude, which left a poor first impression.
The food was equally disappointing. The steak âsandwichâ consisted of a single small piece of toast rather than what most people would expect from a sandwich. We also ordered the sourdough, which was just four very small slices of bread and certainly didnât justify the ÂŁ4.50 price tag.
Weâve visited many country pubs over the years and have always found them to be warm, welcoming, and great examples of British hospitality. Unfortunately, this establishment fell well short of those standards. Based on our experience, I wouldnât recommend it for either food or drinks.
