I had a disappointing experience here.
I purchased several items that qualified for a multi-buy saving, similar to a 3-for-2 offer. After paying, the receipt was very difficult to understand. The grouped items appeared to show the incorrect offer price, with several separate discount lines that didn’t clearly explain what each discount related to.
As I genuinely thought I may have been charged incorrectly, I politely asked a member of staff for some help understanding the receipt. Unfortunately, his attitude was immediately dismissive and condescending. He questioned what I thought was wrong and simply pointed out that there were discounts on the receipt, despite not being able to immediately work out or explain the calculation himself.
Once I realised that the total was in fact correct, I acknowledged this and apologised for taking his time. At that point, he didn’t acknowledge me or even look at me, he simply walked off.
I was quite taken aback by his attitude, so I asked the second member of staff behind the tills why he had been so rude. She seemed unsure what to say and eventually responded with, “I think he’s really busy.”
Being busy really isn’t an excuse for speaking to a customer in that manner. I was polite throughout, accepted that I had misunderstood the receipt once it became clear, and was simply asking for help understanding a confusing pricing breakdown.
The receipt and discount system could certainly be clearer, but my main issue is the customer service. A little patience and basic courtesy would have resolved the situation in a couple of minutes and left a completely different impression.

This coop is our local store in our village..They've put all self service tills in this very small shop..if you've got a card to pay, you have to serve yourself..if you've got cash only, then rude staff bellow down the shop Anyone need serving? They are extremely rude, unprofessional, and it's far too much trouble having to serve customers. They need to have some training in people skills..As usual doing their job for them. Like a lot of different stores today. Is this really progress?.We might as well start stacking shelves for them too while we're at it. Avoiding this store now..Using Lidl at Malin Bridge. So the company Coop not doing itself any favours, especially in today's difficult climate.
