Not impressed at all
Firstly, I am disabled, I don’t do technology well, infact my carer is writing this on my behalf
I went to use subway in longwell green today, to be denied ordering for 20 minutes
Now for context I orders 5 weeks ago at the Yate branch, and had a battle to do this, the serve said he had been told by the area and marketing manager to deny and refuse service to anyone who doesn’t order by the store screens
I had to argue that it is discrimation and that it can not be denied, whilst I know the store had the legal rights to refuse service, they do not have the right to refuse to disabled, or non disabled customers simply becuase they can’t or don’t use the screens.
I stated to that person that it’s illegal to do and can result in court action.
Now going back today’s issue at a different branch but still in the Bristol area.
An Indian gentleman on the meat counter, said “ go order at the screen”
I politely said no I don’t use them for personal reasons.
He said” well tough then, you will have a long wait untill I done these tickets” meaning recipts of computer order. Of which there was only 4.
Now, I was waiting 25 minutes, whilst this person made all of 4 sandwiches, 2 tortillas, two pots of meat balls, and a spud.
I was shocked, and disgusted to see the sheer disregard for hygiene for cross contamination.
Subways policy has always been to change gloves after each order to remove cross contamination. We’ll know fact.
Having once worked in Domino’s pizza for several years, the cross contamination that happened, during my wait for 25 minutes, he never once changed the plastic gloves.
Now, this occoured today, Saturday 27th June from 2.13-2.32pm
The orders he made 3 were vegi based, so gloves should been changed, prior to that he did meat based orders with cheese, tossing back into the cheese store contaminated cheese with meat juices on.
When I came to order, I asked him to change his gloves, he gave a disapproving and funny look at me, reluctantly changed them.
Now, I spoke to the lady whose been their a few years and drew it to her attention that in the time I had waited simply to order, he hadn’t changed the gloves ONCE. That he had cleared the counter of bread crumbs and mess with the same gloves, and cross contaminated, and politely asked her to keep an eye.
And she was very understanding and made him change his gloves again after my order, several other customers also noticed this as well.
Second issue, and it’s recording at mutple sites, is refusing or not helping people who don’t do computer orders, and deny them to order at the counter.
The push on subway to make customers order by computer screens is wrong.
It is discriminatory, to people who don’t use that tech, who are wheelchair bound and can’t reach those screens, and to staff who push or reject customers who want to order face to face
The push on computer based ordering also allowing the staff to become lapse with basic cross continuation and basic food hygiene training as they are no longer being observed by the customer in front of them.
Subway sort this out, both the hygiene issue and the fact that your stores pushing screen use only orders is discrimination.
Having mentioned about experance at a previous store, that person stated the area manager and marketing manager had instructed the staff, bear in mind he said he was assistant manager, to deny and refuse anyone who wanted to order at the counter.
To do with food tracking, stock monitoring reasons ect.
Clearly this isn’t right, as your company has had no issues int he 65 years of operation doing counter orders.
I have to say that will be documenting and video commenting my future interactions. And will have to take legal action if this behaviour continues to happen, regarding customer denial for counter orders, as well as the cross contamination issues
