We’re best known for our iconic bakes, fresh sandwiches, delicious hot drinks and sweet treats. Over eighty years ago, John Gregg started out with one goal: to deliver (by pushbike) fresh eggs and yeast to the families of Newcastle. Ten years later, he chained up his bike and opened Greggs of Gosforth.
Since then, we’ve opened more and more shops and have become something of a Nation’s sweetheart. Our menu has also changed with the nation’s taste. Long-standing Greggs fans among us may even remember the olden days before the hotly debated Vegan Roll, or our refreshing iced drinks.

Whether you are stopping for breakfast, lunch or just a quick snack, there is always something good to choose from. It offers great value for money and is ideal if you want something quick, convenient and enjoyable without spending a fortune. The service was quick and efficient, which made the whole visit smooth and hassle free. Even when busy, the staff kept everything moving well and remained friendly and welcoming throughout. Overall, a great visit with fantastic food, fair prices and fast service. It is easy to see why Greggs is so popular, and I would happily return again in the future.

What happens to your leftover food?
We’ve been donating unsold food for a long time. Originally our bakeries would team up with large charities who would help distribute it to smaller organisations.
This process remains in place, though we’ve also worked hard to increase the amount of unsold food donated by our shops and we currently support a network of 1,077 local good causes.
In 2022, we redistributed 1,800 tonnes of unsold food through our Outlet shops. A share of the profits from the outlets, totalling £450,000, was then donated back into the communities we serve.
