Lovely family meal at Ask. Friendly and attentive staff. Restaurant is in a beautiful old building with Georgian columns and chandeliers in the dining room: vey historic but also modern and clean.Food and drinks brought out quickly: all delicious. Favourites were the garlic dough balls, pollo coppa pizza and carbonara pasta. Shout out to Elen our waitress who was very helpful and efficient.

An absolutely beautiful experience in the heart of historic York. ❤️ We came to ASK Italian to celebrate my wife’s birthday and our wedding anniversary, and everything was simply wonderful. The food was outstanding — genuinely the best meal we have had during our trip in UK. Every dish was delicious, beautifully presented, and full of flavour. We will certainly be talking about this meal long after our trip is over. The setting made it even more special. Dining inside the beautiful historic building dating back to the 18th century , surrounded by centuries of York’s history, gives the restaurant a unique atmosphere that you simply cannot recreate. And a very special thanks to Lumi, who was absolutely lovely. Her warmth, kindness and genuine smile made us feel so welcome and added something truly special to our evening. She was attentive without ever being intrusive, and her hospitality made our celebration feel personal and memorable. ❤️ Thanks Lumi and the whole team for an exceptional meal, a beautiful setting, and a memory we will treasure from our time in York. Wonderful food, extraordinary history, and the loveliest hospitality. We would happily come back again ❤️

They were clearly understaffed. It was hard to get a waiter's attention. It took over 5 minutes to get the ketchup we requested. My husband's linguine was over cooked to the point that when he tried to twirl it on his fork, it just broke apart. When the waiter had dropped it off at our table, they asked if we needed salt or pepper. We initially said no, but after a bite my husband regretted that. He said it was incredibly plain. Because the staff were so busy, we couldn't get the attention of one to ask for salt and pepper, so he just ate it as was. My salad was served on a plate which was a weird choice. I now know that salads are usually served in bowls so that you can actually eat it all. On the plate, the croutons, chicken pieces, and lettuce kept skittering away from each other. The only option for the kids meal was three courses, which annoyed me. I knew my daughter wouldn't eat any of the appetiser options, and we didn't want her to have any dessert. There was an option for fruit instead of a sweet so I asked for that to be brought out with the rest of her meal. That did not happen, and once again we couldn't get the attention of a waiter to remind them. Overall, very disappointing.

To start, the building in which the restaurant is located is truly breathtaking. Located in what was previously a ballroom, you can see much of the original architecture, which was beautiful. As for the food, it was the excellent quality that you would expect from any “Ask Italian”. Finally, as if that wasn’t enough, the service couldn’t be faulted. When seated, we were immediately attended to by Lacey (whom was very attentive throughout) and this level of service remained for the rest of our dining experience. Thank you very much to the entire staff for such a lovely evening, with special thanks to Lacey who made our night very special.

I'm here to whinge because Ask Italian's own feedback survey box doesn't contain enough characters to actually share all of the feedback I had. I booked online in advance for 13:30, and on the day I received an email at 13:14 saying my booking had been updated to 13:15. When I arrived, I found out the table I had booked for my birthday lunch had been given to a different group of 8. No apologies, just directed to sit at a long table at the back. During the meal, service was very slow and absent. We waited and waited for our mains, and when I asked, the waiter said 'oh we were waiting for you to finish your starters'. We had been finished for nearly an hour. No one checked on us. No one offered cheese or black pepper. At the end, a waiter walked by quickly and just palmed the bill on the table and walked off without saying anything. When we arrived I asked about the July special free dessert with the app. At first, one waiter said we would be able to get it for the 6 adults with us. However when we ordered desserts, a different waiter said we could only get 1 per app, and would have to pay for each main separately for the offer to work. A cumulation of things that mean I would not bother coming back here again.
