ASK Italian in Wetherby is in a good location within the town, right on Market Place; the river and parking are close by. I like the building of this restaurant; it’s pretty, stands out and looks welcoming, rather than giving the generic “chain” feel. The interior vibes were more generic, and I did find the tables to be uncomfortably close to each other.
I do feel it is a little pricy here for a chain, but no more than any other ASK location, as someone who is mostly a solo diner, I do feel many of their promotional offers can be reliant on two people and the ASK Perks doesn’t always suit me as if I don’t like the “Perk of the Month”, I feel like I get nothing with no further loyalty or points sytem offered.
I visited during a busy Saturday. I do feel the restaurant was struggling to cope with demand; I had to wait 25 minutes just to order food and drinks, which, even during a busy period, I felt was excessive, as I was hungry and just wanted to get my food order in the kitchen and a drink while I was waiting. The food did come out pretty fast, though; I actually ended up getting my risotto before my water.
I went for the mushroom risotto with chicken, which is one of my favourites when dining at ASK. The risotto was cooked well, tasty and a generous portion. I would say it was worth the wait as I enjoyed it, and I would return.
In summary, I had a mixed experience here. The food was great, but I feel they were struggling to cope during a busy period and having to wait so long for a drink is a letdown, and I almost considered leaving before even ordering my food. I would return, but not on a weekend.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We had such a lovely experience at ASK Italian in Wetherby! The food was absolutely outstanding, and the service was exceptional from start to finish.
Our server, Beth, was amazing. She was friendly, attentive and genuinely went above and beyond to make our visit enjoyable. Nothing was too much trouble, and she made us feel incredibly welcome.
A special mention for how wonderful Beth and the whole team were with my daughter. They were so patient, kind and engaging with her, and the little touches that made her feel included really stood out. It was so refreshing to visit a restaurant that genuinely understands how to make families feel welcome rather than simply accommodating children. The way ASK Italian includes children in the dining experience is fantastic, and honestly, we wish more restaurants did this!
The whole experience was relaxed, welcoming and genuinely family-friendly without compromising on the quality of the food or service.
We will definitely be returning and would highly recommend ASK Italian Wetherby to anyone looking for fantastic food, exceptional service and a restaurant where families are truly made to feel welcome. Beth is an absolute credit to the team! ❤️
This was honestly one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a long time.
From the moment we walked in, the service set the tone. The woman who greeted us was miserable, unwelcoming, and looked completely uninterested. When seating us she recited what sounded like a tired script she’s clearly said a thousand times before, there was no warmth or effort at all.
That said, the one positive was the girl who actually served us. She was really friendly, attentive, and clearly good at her job, a big contrast to the initial welcome.
The food didn’t improve things. The starter (mushrooms) was really poor, overcooked and unnecessarily served on a sizzling hot plate. The bread was somehow burnt on one side and still soft like plain bread on the other. Just badly done.
My main was a carbonara, and it was honestly awful. It genuinely felt like a microwaved ready meal - slimy texture, watery sauce, chewy meat, and overly thick pasta. Not enjoyable at all.
We’d gone for the 3 courses for £30 deal but decided not to bother with dessert because we didn’t want to waste any more money.
I last came here about 15 years ago and said I’d never return because it was so bad. I was persuaded to give it another try and nothing has changed. I’m genuinely shocked it’s still going.
Very disappointing from start to finish, aside from the one member of staff who clearly cared.
In summary:
- Front of house reception based on two visits is just not great. You feel like the lady, although she is very busy, is geared to saying “no”. Shortest menu introduction in history of menu presentations, no how are you etc.
- Restaurant is very noisy, there is no music.
- Dining room is short of staff, two servers for +\- 20 tables. They work hard and are very friendly.
- The order from your phone menu is just terrible.
- Food decent for price level.

I absolutely love coming here, but after visiting several times this year one thing has really stood out to me. There never seems to be enough staff! Despite that every single member of the team is friendly, welcoming and somehow always has a smile on their faces. It’s honestly not nice to see them working their socks off every time I visit, constantly rushing around just to keep everything running. The service is still fantastic which is a real credit to the team but they deserve more support. I really hope to see them with more staff soon because they’re doing an incredible job under what looks like a lot of pressure. Tasty food and a definite yes to coming back!
