  Love this place! Great staff team who are friendly and always happy to help. I've eaten here a few times, and the food is good value for money. I am aware the pub has had a recently been taken on under new management. The manager is lovely, always very welcoming and always greets you with a smile. Love the new decor and atmosphere. It overlooks the Village Green and has a great outdoor seating area which feels cosy under the lights. Would recommend a visit if you are local and looking for a new spot or even if you are just passing by!

  Have just had a wonderful tea at the golden lion in romanby. All our food was very very nice defo worth the money. Service was amazing very friendly warm welcome from all the staff. Ben you have smashed it and brought the pub back to life for Romanby well done.

  I am really sorry to post this. We visited for Sunday lunch today and were really disappointed, between us all we had different complaints, meat was chewy, Yorkshire puddings were cold in the middle indicative of possibly being frozen, 2 slices of carrot and tasteless peas does not constitute seasonal veg, the gravy was tasteless. Usually we have clean plates all round but today everyone left part of the dinner. This was relayed to staff and no money was knocked off the bill but the comments were met with “we’ve had mixed reviews on the food” . Significant improvement needed I am sorry to say.

  We held my dads funeral.wake at The Golden Lion , Romanby, and I cannot thank Ben and his team enough for the kindness and care they showed at such a difficult time , the.staff were compassionate, welcoming and incredibly attentive ,making sure everything ran smoothly. The food was excellent ,the venue warm.and comfortable, nothing was too much trouble . They created a lovely atmosphere where the family and friends could come together to remember my dad .. Thank you for helping to make such an emotional day a little easier. Our sincere thanks and appreciation.. Bradley , louise and family

  The Golden Lion has recently re-opened with new owners following refurbishment. Generally this has been successful and the staff are very welcoming and friendly. The bar prices are also reasonable. However I can't recommend the place for food. Admittedly we booked a table for the night of the England/Argentina game, so it was very busy, but even then the food was woeful. I ordered the Nachos sharer dish (£12.95) and my wife and daughter ordered the " chicken feast" (priced around £15). All 3 dishes arrived some time later (understandable, it was very busy) but the portions were ridiculously small. The Nacho dish was supposed to be a sharer , there wasn't even enough on there to feed one, let alone two people. My wife took one look at it and took it straight back. Even the staff agreed it wasn't up to standard and agreed to bring a further dish out. The "chicken feast" was also basically a child sized portion with a tiny, and yes I do mean tiny (less than an egg cup) portion of beans , a few goujons and chicken wings with around 10 small chips on the plates. I'm aware the place has changed hands but if it wants to survive the food needs to improve and improve quickly. If the new owner/ manager reads this review please note that I do genuinely like the pub and staff, but unless something is done about the food this will be my first/last time of ever eating there.
