This is a busy location with both a normal restaurant area with waitress service and an order at the bar area. We hadn’t booked and were told that there were no tables available for at least 2 hours but we could order food and drinks from the bar. The tables had a blank space for a seat number and a QR code, which linked to an online Menu, but didn’t allow electronic ordering. We decided our order and went to the bar where there was only one person taking food / drinks orders and another dispensing the drinks. It took nearly 10 minutes to place our food order and we got our drinks from the bar. It was clear that they had a limited number of staff on duty as most of the tables had people waiting for their meal. It took 40 minutes before the food arrived and it was the front of house manager who had to leave the reception desk to serve the food. About 5 other tables got their orders at the same time and it was clear that my meal had been sitting on the servery under the warming lights for quite some time as my Medium Rare steak was very well done on the outside and only slightly pink on the inside. The steak sauce pots were only half full. As a started to cut the steak I could tell it was going to require a lot of chewing!!! I had ordered an unlimited soft drink which I had almost finished when the food finally arrived. The bar by that time had a queue of about 8 people waiting to be served and when I went up to try and get my refill I was told I would have to join the queue again !! Having only just received our food that was not going to work! So I ate about 3/4 of the steak as the rest was inedible and the very small serving of peppercorn sauce didn’t help with softening the steak. So I can see why Whitbread are closing all their Beefeater, Brewers Fayre and other regional brands!!

Definitely not the best food, service was mediocre. Waitress banging cutlery in draw and was echoing throughout the restaurant . Seats ripped and uncomfortable

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel on Saturday and went to the Beefeater for a drink and a bite to eat. The crispy Calamari I had, just like the scrumps I remember you got from old fashioned fish and chip shops, when you didn't have enough money for a proper portion. But worse than that was the attitude of the bar staff when we returned for a drink in the evening and were told, before 11 o'clock, that last orders had been called and that the bar was shut and that the doors would be shut at 11. We weren't even to get a drink to take back to our room, or as many other people were, enjoying a drink outside in the lovely weather. As the majority of the people in the bar were watching the England and Denmark world cup match, this was even more frustrating as the (very arrogant) person who appeared to be in charge, just turned the television off, mid-broadcast. The attitude of the bar staff was not at all customer friendly and if they had taken the time to listen to us and some of the other customers, things could have been worked out without any conflict. My wife and I won't be back there again, especially as there are more than enough other hotels in the area.
