Really poor and sad pub. We arrived at lunchtime to the announcement by a young member of staff was on her own and could not take any good orders until others arrive. I felt for her but she really looked fed up which did not help. Tried the wi-fi but it was one of tbose old ones which wanted to know everything about you so I did not bother. Staff arrived so I ordered a fish finger sandwich ...very poor, no love and the bread reminded me of the old Motherspride.
Experience was a "never again" which was a shame as it really is a nice pub.

I often pop in here and it’s always a delight. The people that work there are always in a great mood and help cheer you up if you’ve had a tough day! Genuine honest people.

Lovely village pub. Didn’t eat here so ignore the food score. Good beer and good location.

We booked a table for four at 13:30 on Monday lunchtime. When we arrived, we were informed that several menu items were unavailable, which was disappointing to hear straight away.
Although the food came out quickly, the quality wasn’t acceptable. The lasagne was burnt, and the onion bhaji was so overcooked it was black and rock hard. Over halfway through the meal we were asked how everything was, and we raised the issues. A replacement bhaji was offered, but we declined.
The restaurant was almost empty, so we expected much better standards. We’d heard great things and were really looking forward to trying it, but unfortunately we won’t be returning.

We were 3 weary travelers from the States . We were on a genealogy quest to St James in Papplewick. We stumbled upon this WONDERFUL pub. The food & service was out of this world amazing! My Mother inlaw had the bangers and mash. The gravy was the BEST EVER! I went the “safe” route with a burger but I dipped my fries in that gravy. My husband had mac&cheese with a side of maple glazed sausage. Food & atmosphere was just what we were looking for- an old English pub. We had visions that our relatives might have had a pint here. ~but ~ Here comes the GREATEST PART!! We were “stranded” because we no phone service. The pub let us use their phone to call a taxi. The taxi didn’t have any time to take us to our next destination til 16:30. That wasn’t gunna work. So the nicest patron Chris allowed us to use his Uber app to get a ride. Keep in mind that it’s cold & pouring down rain. Chris was in shorts. He stood outside with us till we got in the Uber & on our way.
There are not enough words to describe how awesome this place was. Our waitress was Heather and she was the best waitress we have ever had. So kind!!!! BRAVO WELL DONE!
