  You can see in the photo the badly chipped/broken spout of the little milk jug I was given, alongside a poorly cleaned mug for my tea. Zoom in and it’s fairly obvious. This isn’t simply cosmetic either. Chipped crockery is a hygiene concern because damaged surfaces can retain residue and bacteria and are more difficult to clean properly. It really shouldn’t have been in service at all. Before this, I’d ordered a decaf Americano for £3.70. What I received was dreadful, amounting to little more than vaguely coffee-flavoured brown water. I politely complained and suggested there might be an issue with the beans. I was then asked what I’d ordered. When I said “decaf Americano”, I was told, “That’s why it’s not good.” What?! I wasn’t prepared to accept that as an explanation for serving a bad coffee, so I opted for tea instead. A teabag, hot water and a little milk, still for the £3.70 I’d paid, then arrived as pictured. For what you get, I’d say the drinks here are extremely expensive. I can’t comment on the food, which may well be very good. The service was reasonably polite, although a little inattentive. The surroundings also look rather better than they actually feel. A number of the chairs appear comfortably upholstered but offer surprisingly little cushioning, and overall the place feels fairly cheap and cheerful (in terms of aesthetics) despite pricing its drinks as though it were considerably more upmarket. It’s a shame, because I remember this Esquires being much better previously. My last three visits have progressively left me less impressed, and this one has rather settled it for me. I won’t be coming back.

  Coffee was great. Had Eggs Florentine. Muffin was not toasted cold uncooked spinach and under cooked eggs. Also served with salad which was strange. Did not have the time or energy to complain as was in a rush.

  Called in here for the first time, we were walking past & they had someone outside with the free samples of cherry lemonade, which was lush. We decided to go in for a drink & I had the cherry lemonade should have had mango but they had run out, but it didn't really matter. My husband tried a different drink, it was a caramel peach smoothie, that was really good, you could taste both the peach & the caramel but really subtle & not overwhelming. Can't rate the food as we didn't have any, but having looked at the menu we have decided we will be having one of the flatbreads, when we go in again, not cheap particularly but on a par with a lot of coffee shops, definitely worth a visit for a treat.

  I used to love Esquires but I am not sure what has happened recently their menu has gone so bad. Bought 3 things a flat bread, matcha cake, and fresh orange juice. The only good thing was fresh OJ. I could barely eat the flat bread and the cake was extremely sweet and warm Wish if I could get a refund.
