  Been here a few times now, never had any issues. Good food and drink, good atmosphere, staff friendly and polite.

  Really disappointing experience, especially as we’ve been regular customers and genuinely enjoy the food here. We came in intending to order breakfast, but my friend had one coffee with her from another shop because unfortunately we’ve never found the coffee here particularly good (the flat whites especially have been quite inconsistent and rarely feel like proper flat whites). We were told that there was no outside drinks policy so we had to leave. I completely understand having a policy, but it felt unnecessarily rigid given that the café was almost empty, and we were there to order and pay for breakfast not just use the seating. It also made us wonder how strictly this applies to things like bottled water? Surely there can be a little discretion depending on the circumstances? We ended up leaving and having breakfast elsewhere, which was a shame. We like the food and have been coming here regularly, but this experience definitely left us disappointed, so u fortunately I won’t be coming back.

  This afternoon I returned to Esquires Northampton today following a previous issue and I have to say the customer service I received from Tuhin was absolutely fantastic. He was extremely polite, welcoming and professional and made me feel completely at ease. Tuhin is a credit to Esquires and an excellent example of how customers should be treated. I have been served by him previously and have always found him to be courteous, friendly and professional. Thank you, Tuhin, for making today’s visit such a positive experience. Your kindness and excellent customer service were very much appreciated.

  You can see in the photo the badly chipped/broken spout of the little milk jug I was given, alongside a poorly cleaned mug for my tea. Zoom in and it’s fairly obvious. This isn’t simply cosmetic either. Chipped crockery is a hygiene concern because damaged surfaces can retain residue and bacteria and are more difficult to clean properly. It really shouldn’t have been in service at all. Before this, I’d ordered a decaf Americano for £3.70. What I received was dreadful, amounting to little more than vaguely coffee-flavoured brown water. I politely complained and suggested there might be an issue with the beans. I was then asked what I’d ordered. When I said “decaf Americano”, I was told, “That’s why it’s not good.” What?! I wasn’t prepared to accept that as an explanation for serving a bad coffee, so I opted for tea instead. A teabag, hot water and a little milk, still for the £3.70 I’d paid, then arrived as pictured. For what you get, I’d say the drinks here are extremely expensive. I can’t comment on the food, which may well be very good. The service was reasonably polite, although a little inattentive. The surroundings also look rather better than they actually feel. A number of the chairs appear comfortably upholstered but offer surprisingly little cushioning, and overall the place feels fairly cheap and cheerful (in terms of aesthetics) despite pricing its drinks as though it were considerably more upmarket. It’s a shame, because I remember this Esquires being much better previously. My last three visits have progressively left me less impressed, and this one has rather settled it for me. I won’t be coming back.

  Coffee was great. Had Eggs Florentine. Muffin was not toasted cold uncooked spinach and under cooked eggs. Also served with salad which was strange. Did not have the time or energy to complain as was in a rush.
