Soak up our friendly service and homely charm at The Black Bull, rooted in the town of Morpeth. We’re the perfect place to sit back, relax and enjoy your favourite drink with a great atmosphere. Our large outside area is perfect for enjoying sunny rays, and we also have a private room available for hire, ideal for any special occasion or meetings.
We are visitors to Morpeth and the last time we came two years ago it was a great atmosphere. That time we sat on sofas with our dogs and it was great. This time it was totally different as the place was cold, empty and had no atmosphere. It was during the day though. Perhaps we will come back again in future and on an evening.

Black Bull, Morpeth front street.
Been here many times over the years for lunch, always spot on food, use to love the steak pie, today my wife decided to try it as well because I rave about it but it wasn't to be, the pies are no longer hand made masterpieces but frozen rubbish, tasted awful, I got 3 bits of chewy gristle in mine my wife got 2 but no other meat, the rest of the meal wasn't much better, won't be back.

Myself and some friends visited this weekend and anticipated it would be busy, so booked a table on their website.
We turned up and noticed the only staff available were behind the bar, so ordered drinks and asked the bar staff about our booking. She advised to speak to the manager (also behind the bar) as he dealt with bookings. We did this, and were met with a rude and abrupt “I can’t help you with that right now” and walked away.
I completely understand the pub was somewhat busy, however why take bookings online, if you’re unable to have a member of staff available to help? It’s not hard to be polite, and say “I’ll be just a moment” and come back.
We eventually found another member of staff leaving the kitchen, who went to check for our booking, and then approached said manager, who shooed her away and left her to deal with it. Eventually, we told her we would just find our own table, something we were uncertain on doing considering I had to enter my card details upon booking!
The food however, was the only saving grace. Whilst it took well over an hour, and the waitress brought some out much earlier and claimed she forgot to tell the chef our friends starters and our mains were together, it was all delicious.
We chose this pub due to their previous gluten free menu with one of our group being intolerant, however would hesitate to return on the service alone.
