So we stopped there tonight on our way back from a visit to the A&E. It’s been some years since we last ate at Burger King so I was a little surprised to find that wall mounted tablets seem to have replaced the staff. I’m pretty tech savvy even at 64 so working out how to use one was no problem, however! The last time we used the place, you’d go in, look at the overhead menu and order. The tablet presented me with about a zillion options, I simply needed 1. Whopper meal, easy, 1 burger, fries and a drink…….. It seems the tablet wanted me to select every item, then asked did I want extras, all chargeable of course (BBQ sauce at 40p a pot for example), then it seemed that I had to pay for that meal before I order one for the wife, so I abandoned that method and so to the counter, where apparently I was in a queue behind 4 Deliveroo drivers all waiting to have their bags filled up. The one person serving seemed uninterested in serving customers focusing instead on the Deliveroo orders. It would have taken less than 2 minutes for him to stop what he was doing and take an order for 2 Whopper meals, one with coke, one with water. But instead we stood for 10 minutes and watched him struggle through. So the wife comes up with a great suggestion, “It will be quicker to go order at the drive through”. So we hop back in the car and get in line. Behind me was a van. We placed our order and paid, then following the servers instructions went and parked up and waited for someone to bring our meal. 10 minutes passed and a young man came out with several bags of food, he went to two cars and the van that had driven in behind me. Then disappeared back into the building. We waited, watched the bloke in the van eat his last mouthful before pulling out then at last our meal arrived. The burger was perfectly fine as was the drink. But since when did Burger king, or any burger establishment start serving chips, or fries as they call them without a grain of salt on them, that was both portions, is salt an opt in option? I wouldn’t mind but there was no sachet of salt in the bag, I’m assuming that whoever packed it left the salt with the serviettes which were also absent. So has Deliveroo become the no 1 priority over and above walk in customers? On minimum wages can they only afford to hire 1 person to work front of house presumably to deal with Deliveroo and walk in customers? Are Burger King out of touch with their competitors, BBQ sauce comes free from the other big burger chain and salted chips or fries are standard. Does Burger King think that most people drive around with a salt cellar and a supply of serviettes in their car? Oh just to top the who thing off Mr Deliveroo who rides around in a Tesla, the space between the entrance and exit is not there as a private parking space for you, you caused problems for customers both getting in and exiting the place.
