Greggs is a British food to go brand, specialising in fresh bakes, sandwiches, hot drinks and sweet treats. Founded in 1939, Greggs started out selling eggs and yeast by pushbike, ten years later the first shop opened on Gosforth High Street, in Newcastle. Now, over 80 years later Greggs is a household name thanks to their tasty Sausage Rolls, Steak Bakes, Chicken Bakes, Doughnuts, Yum Yums and freshly ground Fairtrade Coffee. With shops across the UK, you're never far away from a Greggs. And with new offerings like Click + Collect and delivery to your door with Just Eat, it's never been easier to get your flakey fix. The Greggs App gives customers tasty rewards every time they shop. From sandwiches to sweet treats, hot drinks and bakes, each time you buy a product, you'll get a stamp. Collect nine stamps in a category, and the tenth item will be free. New customers can also get a free hot drink of their choice, just for downloading the app. The Greggs Foundation aims to build stronger, healthier communities across nine principle programmes including 'The Breakfast Club programme', which helps primary school children get a nutritious start to their school day. Today there are over 680 Breakfast Clubs across the UK, serving wholesome, free breakfasts to around 44,000 children every school day- that's 8.5 million meals a year.

Joshua, very rude and sarcastic, doesn’t understand customer service or the fact that a sausage doesn’t have to be pork.
So when I asked for a chicken sausage roll he very abruptly corrected me and gave me what felt like teacher to student lesson on the fact that there was no pork in the sausage so it was not a chicken “sausage” roll. From factual evidence a sausage can be made up of whichever ground meat or vegetable. I only mentioned the word sausage, because I had been in a Greggs before and they almost mistakenly thought I meant a chicken bake, so god forbid I put the word sausage to make it clear what chicken product I wanted. I didn’t realise that it would so greatly offend young Joshua.
This is the first thing he pulled me up on, secondly he felt the need to correct me when I asked for a pepperoni pizza and a plain pizza, which he was clearly offended that I didn’t call it a margarita pizza, but at the end of the day that is a plain pizza, I wasn’t expecting a pile of pizza dough.
He was reported to the manager, the manager rolled their eyes to which implied it’s probably happened before, I will return but I will not be served by Joshua again.

I’m honestly very disappointed with my experience at Greggs. The service is consistently slow, queues are long, and the whole experience just feels frustrating. On top of that, if you want to eat in, you have to pay extra and even clean your own table, which doesn’t feel right at all.
But the main issue for me is the coffee. I always order decaf for a reason, as caffeine affects my body very negatively. Unfortunately, 3 out of 5 times I was given regular coffee with caffeine instead. This is not a small mistake. For someone who cannot tolerate caffeine, it can cause real physical discomfort and impact the entire day.
It’s really concerning that something so important keeps being overlooked. When a customer clearly orders decaf, they should be able to trust that they are actually getting it. Sadly, this hasn’t been the case here, and because of that, I won’t be returning.

What happens to your leftover food?
We’ve been donating unsold food for a long time. Originally our bakeries would team up with large charities who would help distribute it to smaller organisations.
This process remains in place, though we’ve also worked hard to increase the amount of unsold food donated by our shops and we currently support a network of 1,077 local good causes.
In 2022, we redistributed 1,800 tonnes of unsold food through our Outlet shops. A share of the profits from the outlets, totalling £450,000, was then donated back into the communities we serve.
We’re no longer taking new applications for end-of-day food donation partners, but we continue to identify regions where our shops could support a local charitable collection. To find out more or nominate an organisation visit: https://www.greggsfoundation.org.uk/unsold-food-donations.
