I have been going to this subway for the last few years. As a young woman, I have had more than one uncomfortable experience at this subway. The first time was when I had only been about twice, but I was sort of familiar with this staff member and he must’ve remembered me too, the member of staff started asking me odd questions like “do you have a brother?”. I do not have a brother so I found this very strange, the worker then proceeded to point outside (through the large glass window) to a young teenage boy on a bike, and demanding that it was my brother in a mocking demeanour. This made me very uncomfortable and slightly scared as I did not know the boy, and when I told him politely that I did not know the boy and that he isn’t my brother he proceeded to laugh, ignore what I had said and continue to say that the boy was my brother. I felt quite scared after this interaction. The second time was when I had asked if they offered a student discount, and the worker at the time (different to the first one) just started laughing at me saying “no ma’am” repeatedly. I found this very rude and condescending as they could’ve simply just said “no, sorry.” The third interaction happened today, and this is what is making me leave this review as I am just so tired of what seems to be misogynistic behaviour. Today I had asked my mum to go into subway for me, as I didn’t feel comfortable going in myself. I had told her what sandwich I wanted beforehand, and she had the name of it written down. When she ordered it the worker proceeded to make it, until when it came to the payment process, it was going to be around £11, when a footlong subway sandwich meal (not customised) should be around £8. It definitely is an actual sandwich because I searched it up on the subway website to confirm it. My mum then asked the worker why it was significantly more expensive, and he said it was because it isn’t a meal, and that the bacon is an extra £2-3. My mum then said that is too expensive so can you please remove the bacon, and instead of the worker just apologising for not clarifying that the sandwich was going to cost more with the “extra” filling, he proceeds to open the sandwich, scoop all of the bacon out with his hand and throw it into the bin. Now half of the fillings were also in the bin, so my mum said can you please add more cheese since you’ve taken it all out, so he did, but didn’t toast it. My mum asked him to toast it and he very rudely shoved the sandwich back into the toaster, and once wrapped practically threw it at my mum. Since the bacon was already in the sandwich, it would’ve cost him absolutely nothing to just leave the bacon in and not charge extra for it, since it was his mistake failing to explain that it would’ve cost more. This persistent nasty behaviour at Benton subway has made me very uncomfortable. I will no longer be going there anymore.
