- SBSteve B6 days ago5.0Not lived in Alnwick long and it’s took a little while to try out The Plough. From the moment we stepped in the door the service was exceptional. Staff were friendly, attentive and efficient. They looked after both ourselves and our dog and checked throughout our meal that we had everything we needed. We went on the Smokehouse evening and had the platter to share. The meal was superb, great selection of meats and accompaniments that were beautifully cooked and presented. Couldn’t finish it all but we were given boxes to take our leftovers home. The restaurant was very welcoming, the tables were clean and nicely laid out and we enjoyed the country music to add to the Smokehouse theme. Overall excellent experience, please pass on our gratitude to the excellent front of house staff and chef. We’ll be back

The staff were really friendly and welcoming, and the service was great. Dan looked after us brilliantly and made sure everything was spot on. We had a lovely afternoon and will definitely be back.

Place was deserted, no atmosphere at all (just 4 people at one table), hardly any of the taps on the bar appeared to be on (glasses on top of all but a couple), no staff in sight at all despite us looking/hanging around. Gave up and headed back to the Tanners (which is excellent btw). Disappointing overall.
