Sounds like this place is closing as a beefeater on 10th of September. Always lovely food and fantastic service. I guess people will miss it when its gone as a beefeater so we popped in to enjoy our anniversary meal there. As ever the service from our waitress L..... was absolutely excellent. Might just try and visit one more time. Can't be easy knowing redundancies but still professional to the end. Food was excellent, and filling shame I had no room for desert. Thanks for many lovely meals. Get there before it closes as a beefeater.

We arrived at the Premier Inn after a long trip - my wife and I and our four and six year-old. We went over to the Brache for some food at around 8pm and found the large restaurant mostly empty, save around four or five tables in use. There was no one to greet us after waiting near the entrance for a couple of minutes, so we sat down at a table, only to be rudely asked to move by a lady (no "excuse me", just "you can't sit here") who requested we speak to the young man at the entrance about being seated. We stood there for another minute or two - eventually he appeared and asked if we had a reservation. I said we didn't; we're staying at the hotel and just wanted a meal. The young man then said he couldn't seat us without a reservation. I (nicely) indicated that the restaurant was almost empty so I didn't understand why that would be an issue. The young man stated again that we must have a reservation and that he had been "turning people away all night" for that reason... He then not only refused to accommodate, but proceeded to direct us down the road to other restaurants, which were "a five-minute drive." He also said we couldn't have bar food, as they had "just stopped serving that too." We exited the restaurant, somewhat confused. I immediately took out my phone, went on the website, and made a reservation for the restaurant for FIVE MINUTES LATER. They had available slots every fifteen minutes until close. We went straight back in; the young man looked strangely at us to ask if we were alright; I stated, "evening, mate, we have a reservation for four people for 8:15." He genuinely looked at me like I'd just discovered fire. There was a very awkward pause, then he confirmed my details and led us to a table in the (very empty) restaurant. Why did I need to do that myself? Why couldn't he have helped us out? Why couldn't he have looked at the fact we had kids in tow and tried to accommodate? Why couldn't he have said, "normally you'd need a booking but we've got lots of slots free and we're not busy so I'll help you out on this occasion?" He could have done so much more to help us there. I have never seen anything like it. Honestly, it was the most bizarre experience. Someone needs to do something about this and upskill the staff in customer service. The place is right next to the hotel; stands to reason a young family might be a bit tired after their journey and just want a meal. Absolutely disgraceful. The food - it wasn't bad, in fairness. Service was quite slow. We had a long wait for someone to come and take our drinks order. Understandable - there were three waiters and waitresses serving five tables so they were clearly rushed off their feet... 🙄 However, service matters most. My little family and I were initially TURNED AWAY for absolutely no reason.

We spent the night at the Premier Inn and had dinner at this beefeater. Dirty tables and greasy sticky tables and menu's. We had continental breakfast and plates, cutlery very dirty (and not just one, but loads).! They run out of plates, people were queuing up waiting for plates and food.
