  I’ve had enough of what I believe is discriminatory treatment at this Co-op location, so I’m finally leaving a negative review. The way some staff members treat Black customers is unacceptable. Time and time again, I’ve felt like I’m being treated as a criminal the moment I walk through the door. A few months ago, I was simply looking at the cakes to see whether they had any birthday cakes available. I was standing in the aisle while a staff member was restocking shelves right next to me. At some point, he stopped what he was doing and stood there watching me. I didn’t even realise it at first until I turned my head and saw him staring directly at me. I was shocked and said, “I’m only looking at cakes. Do you think I’m going to steal a cake?” I never raised my voice or caused a scene. He looked away briefly, but instead of continuing to restock the shelves, he kept watching me. At that point, I thought forget this and walked out of the shop. Then yesterday , I walked into the Co-op to buy a bottle of water. A white woman entered the store at exactly the same time as me. As I walked in, I saw the security guard turn away and speak into his headset. They may think customers don’t notice, but it seemed obvious he was telling the staff member at the till to watch the CCTV monitor. Why do I think that? Because this isn’t the first time I’ve seen it happen. Anyway, I picked up my water and headed towards the till. Sure enough, I immediately noticed the staff member who had been watching the monitor quickly walk away, as if trying not to make it obvious. And of course, the same level of attention wasn’t given to the white woman who entered at the same time as me. From my experience, Black customers are singled out and stereotyped as potential thieves. And sorry to say, but every time this happens, the staff working at the time, including the security guard, are Indian. Take that as you will. I’ve never stolen anything, I’ve never had any arguments with staff. Yet I’ve experienced this treatment so many times that I feel the need to speak out because I’ve had enough. If you’re a Black customer, be aware that this has been my experience at this Co-op. I have repeatedly felt stereotyped, monitored, and treated with suspicion for no apparent reason. No customer should be made to feel like a criminal every time they walk in.

  Three times in a row I was charged more for groceries than prices marked on shelves. It’s ridiculous to have to double check receipts and go through the customer service process when they overcharge you.

  Disgraceful customer service. The workers are clearly incompetent at their job, which is far from hard work. Every time I’ve ordered via ubereats from here they send me the wrong order. I received dog food - I don’t even have a bloody dog!!! Hire people who have decent literacy skills and don’t label the receipts with the incorrect orders and not those who can just about speak English. It’s absolutely pathetic! Guy on the phone then proceeds to say there’s nothing he can do but IF you had better staff who actually knew what they were doing, this wouldn’t happen.
