I am extremely disappointed and upset by the way I was treated during my recent visit to Tesco Orpington. What should have been a straightforward request for a refund turned into an extremely unpleasant and distressing experience.
I am a white English woman from Orpington and have been a local customer. I attended the store because I had been sold a product that was out of date, and I simply wanted a refund. I do not believe this was an unreasonable request, particularly when the product should never have been on sale in the first place.
Instead of receiving a simple apology and assistance, I felt that I was treated extremely disrespectfully. I initially spoke with a manager called Monz, who I felt was rude and dismissive towards me. The situation then escalated when I spoke with a lady called Suzanne, who I understand is the store manager. Rather than helping resolve the issue, I felt that she began arguing with me.
I found the entire situation incredibly upsetting. I came into the store as a customer who had been sold an out-of-date product, yet I was made to feel as though I was the problem. I was particularly shocked that, despite simply asking for a refund, I was threatened with being banned from the store.
I find this completely unacceptable. I should not have been made to feel intimidated or unwelcome when I was raising a legitimate concern about a product that Tesco should not have been selling.
I also felt that I was treated in a discriminatory manner during this incident, which has left me extremely distressed and angry. I expect every customer to be treated with dignity, respect and fairness, regardless of their background.
I am now considering taking this matter further and reporting the circumstances to the local authority and Trading Standards, particularly regarding the sale of an out-of-date product and the way my complaint was handled.
I would like Tesco to investigate this incident fully, including the conduct of Monz and Suzanne, and review any available CCTV and records of the incident. I would also like a clear explanation as to why I was threatened with a ban when I was simply attempting to obtain a refund for an out-of-date product.
This experience has seriously damaged my trust in Tesco. I expect a proper investigation and a meaningful response rather than a generic apology.
I hope Tesco takes this complaint seriously, because the way I was treated was completely unacceptable and, quite frankly, extremely upsetting.
Lovely store brilliant car parking ideal for people with mobility issues, good range of products, great place to shop.

Pharmacy is meant to open 10am Sunday according to the opening hours sign but at 1020 this morning the lights were still off. A queue had formed. If it was closed today, or was opening later, couldn't somebody have put a notice up?!
And then in the baked goods section there were about 6 packs of croissants. Zero pain au chocolat. This was 20 minutes after opening?!?!
Lady at the self service tilt behaviour was really awfull at around 9:45pm 29th September made me feel uncomfortable with their patronising behaviour looks like they are paying my groceries they need training about how to deal with customers I didnt see such behaviour elsewhere just in this branch!! They need training about some ethics and how to deal with people Otherwise you gonna lose customers I dont feel comfortable enough to go back to buy groceries from this branch again..
Update: No action was taken I am sure and not even a reply here , this place doesn't deserve customers and today I needed some groceries and it was on my way but I went to Aldi much better customer service better ethics and much cheaper with better quality and healthier options..
Anyone who has a bad experience here should stop visiting this site until they take actions they are here to serve the customer and must listen otherwise they should expect to lose customers and lose the business..
O Tesco Extra, mighty and bright,
You glow in Orpington morning and night.
With trolleys and baskets assembled with care,
You wait for the shoppers who wander in there.
They enter for milk, with a mission so small,
Then somehow buy half of the shop after all.
There’s bread in the bakery, warm and divine,
And biscuits and chocolate arranged in a line.
There’s cereal and pasta and sauces galore,
And somehow there’s always one thing more.
The aisles stretch onward, majestic and wide,
While lost shoppers wander from side unto side.
There’s F&F clothing for people to see,
And coffee at Costa for tired feet to be.
There’s sushi at YO! for a quick little feast,
A supermarket journey transformed to the East.
There’s Timpson for keys and repairs on the go,
And Tesco Mobile for phones that can glow.
Travel Money waits for your holiday plan,
While InPost handles parcels whenever it can.
The pharmacy stands for prescriptions and care,
And electric car chargers are waiting out there.
Scan as You Shop makes you feel very clever,
Until you lose something you scanned five minutes ago.
You search through the trolley, beneath every bag,
And wonder why shopping has suffered a lag.
Then finally checkout—the end is in sight,
The scanner goes beep, and everything's right.
“Would you like a bag?” is the question they say,
You proudly produce one you brought yesterday.
The receipt comes out, stretching endlessly long,
And you wonder exactly where you went wrong.
“I only bought milk!” you mutter in shame,
While twelve bags of shopping quietly proclaim
That Tesco has conquered your budget once more,
Yet somehow you’ll still come back through the door.
Outside, the car park is bustling and wide,
With shoppers and trolleys all moving beside.
Orpington continues its everyday flow,
While Tesco keeps shining with its familiar glow.
There will always be someone blocking aisle three,
There will always be children demanding sweets for free.
There’ll always be bargains you never planned,
And products that somehow end up in your hand.
So here's to the Tesco, dependable and grand,
The grocery kingdom of Orpington land.
For whatever you need, whether little or great,
You know that Tesco will patiently wait.
A temple of shopping, of bread, tea and more—
Tesco Extra Orpington: forever the store.
