As a regular Tesco shopper, I feel uncomfortable about returning to this store because of the way a particular security guard has treated me. He is short, reddish-brown swept hair and brown skinned. On two separate occasions, I have come into the store and been followed and closely watched while shopping. I shop with my young son in a pram, and I often have shopping with me that I purchased elsewhere before entering this Tesco. It is the security guard’s responsibility to notice that I am already carrying items when I enter the store, so they should not be assumed to have come from this Tesco. Each time I have visited, he has been standing at the front of the entrance, so he would have seen me come in with those items. I understand that security staff have a job to do and that surveillance is part of their role. However, I do not believe it is appropriate to follow me around the store or stand watching me while I browse. On one occasion, despite not seeing me take anything, he stopped me and looked in the basket underneath my son’s pram to check whether I had taken any items. This experience has left me feeling embarrassed, singled out, and uncomfortable. As a loyal Tesco customer, I should be able to shop without feeling like I am under suspicion every time I visit. I would appreciate it if this matter could be looked into so that I can shop in your store without feeling unfairly targeted.
