The reviews of this store speak for themselves. Staff don't understand what you're looking for when you ask even though they are stocking the shelves. Completely disinterested in their job to the point of being unhelpful. Please fix the problem Tesco.

This tesco shop is local to myself which I use regularly. I visited today to purchase a pack of tomatoes, that I did, paid at the self check out which does not give you a receipt (which it should anyway). As I walk out of the shop a man, whom I assume is the manager called Ravinder, beckoned me back into the shop like a dog and told me to empty my bag. I explained to ravinder that I bought my £1.75 tomatoes that were my only purchase to which he still proceeded to hound me for stealing. His colleague who was behind the till at the time of my purchase did not recognise me, no surprise there. I asked Ravinder to print a receipt for the till I last used. When he did and realised I had paid, he couldn’t even look me in the eye and offer a sincere apology. I can only guess I have been profiled as a thief due to my heritage, because there’s nothing else to go on. I am embarrassed to be labelled as a thief in front of all my neighbours and community in this shop and will never return.

I think this Tesco is really good. It has a hood variety of vegetables, including okra quite good deals. The staff are extremely helpful. The only thing is the fridges don’t work properly so they have to leave the doors open, but that seems to be all local Tescos!

“Dear Tesco,
I am writing to express my absolute horror and disappointment after my recent shopping experience at your store.
As a vegan, which is a very personal part of my life that I usually prefer to keep private, I was completely devastated to discover that I had somehow been sold a steak.
To make matters worse, I had a piece of coriander stuck to my forehead at the time — the universal sign of veganism — so I truly do not understand how this could have happened.
At first, I assumed it must have been some kind of plant-based alternative, but the moment I opened the packaging at home, I was met with what genuinely looked like the inside of a cow.
I cannot describe the emotional shock I felt in that moment. One second I was preparing dinner, and the next I was questioning everything I thought I knew. I have not emotionally recovered from the experience and I fear I may never look at the meat aisle the same way again.
I trusted Tesco to provide a safe shopping experience, not to send me into a full existential crisis in my own kitchen.
I hope you understand the seriousness of this situation and take steps to ensure no other unsuspecting customer suffers the same trauma I have endured.
Deeply disturbed,
Karen Smith”

It started in Tesco.
Funny, isn’t it? You never think tragedy is going to find you between meal deals and reduced houmous. You think it happens somewhere dramatic. A storm. A motorway pile-up. Not under fluorescent lighting next to the bakery aisle while ‘Moves Like Jagger’ plays faintly overhead.
But trauma doesn’t book appointments.
I’d only gone in for a few essentials. Milk. Pasta. Maybe a little treat to get me through the week because life had already been testing me emotionally and financially.
Then I saw them.
Cookies.
Beautiful, innocent-looking cookies sitting there like they wanted to be trusted.
Looking back now, I realise I ignored all the warning signs. The packaging was slightly too wholesome. The font was too reassuring. But I was naïve then. I still believed the world was fundamentally good.
I bought them.
I took them home.
And that night, with the confidence of a person who had no idea their life was about to split into ‘before’ and ‘after,’ I opened the packet.
The first bite felt… wrong.
Not bad enough to stop. Just unsettling. Like when someone smiles for slightly too long.
The second bite raised questions no human should ever have to ask themselves.
Why is it dissolving like loft insulation?
Why is it simultaneously dry and wet?
Why does it taste like somebody whispered the word ‘cookie’ into a rice cake?
Then I saw it.
Three words that changed me forever.
GLUTEN.
FREE.
I froze.
My tea went cold beside me as I stared into the middle distance trying to process the unimaginable. Somewhere outside, a dog barked. A siren passed. The world kept moving, completely unaware that I had just experienced the greatest betrayal a supermarket can legally commit.
Since that day, things haven’t been easy.
I can’t enter Tesco without my heart rate increasing. I avoid aisle signage. Last week I accidentally made eye contact with the free-from section and had to sit down near the self-checkouts for twenty minutes.
Friends say I should move on. But they didn’t taste it. They didn’t feel the texture collapse into sadness inside their mouth.
They don’t wake up at 2am hearing phantom crunches.
They don’t know what it’s like to inspect every packet like a forensic investigator searching for hidden trauma.
Sometimes people laugh when I tell them. That’s fine. Trauma isn’t always visible.
Some people carry emotional baggage. I carry receipts.
But I refuse to let Tesco win.
Every day I get stronger. Every day I walk a little closer to the biscuit aisle. Recovery isn’t linear. Sometimes healing looks like calmly picking up a packet and checking the label without shaking.
I’m not fully there yet.
But one day… one day I hope to trust cookies again.
