Hostile service - aggressive shouting from female cashier, aviod this location
I have visited this Tesco twice before and had good experiences (including a polite male cashier on my second visit). Unfortunately, my experience today (24 May 2026) with a female cashier was completely horrible and deeply discriminatory.
There was no queue when I approached. I politely asked her a question about the pricing of the reusable bags. Instead of answering, she completely ignored me, spoke into her earpiece, and loudly shouted the total price at me 3 to 4 times. My hands were clearly on the bag and I even showed it to her, hoping that if she had poor hearing she would pause her call and pay attention, but she refused to do so.
As I tried to clarify my question while holding the bag, she continued to yell aggressively, shouting at me to "only take one" before yelling the price at me all over again—completely misinterpreting my polite question and creating an embarrassing, hostile scene. To make matters worse, no receipt was provided, so I had to stand there counting my change to ensure it was correct while dealing with the distress of being yelled at.
What made the true reason for her behavior obvious was what happened next. Most of the customers in this shop were white. Immediately after dealing with me, a white woman arrived behind me in line, and the cashier's demeanor instantly changed—she treated her completely normally, calmly, and respectfully.
As an Asian traveler with a mixed distant European background, it was incredibly obvious that her aggressive shouting and hostility were targeted specifically at me based on my appearance. For all tourists, especially Asian and mixed-race visitors, please avoid this specific location to protect your peace of mind while in London.
