I visited this Subway as a paying customer and asked to use the toilet because I urgently needed to urinate. The manager, Abdul, refused me access. Another member of staff, Dipak, told me, “This is not for customers.”
What made the situation even more concerning was that there appeared to be disabled/accessibility signage on the toilet, yet a customer was being told it was not available for customer use.
I can understand a business refusing toilet access to people simply walking in from the street, but refusing a paying customer who is already eating there is extremely poor and inhospitable service.
Subway outlets largely offer the same food, so one of the things that distinguishes one branch from another is service and customer experience. How is a customer supposed to comfortably sit and enjoy their meal when they urgently need the toilet, are refused access, and have to leave their food behind to search for a public toilet?
Then it shouldn’t be called restaurant, it should be branded as Takeaway.
This is also a busy area visited by tourists. Customer service like this leaves a very poor impression and, in my view, does not reflect the welcoming image London should offer its visitors.
I believe the management, Subway and the relevant local authorities should look at the toilet-access arrangements at this location. Customers deserve basic dignity and reasonable treatment…
I regularly get Subway and I know what the portions and 6-inch subs are supposed to look like, so I was extremely disappointed with my experience, particularly with a member of staff called Jioti.
This has now happened to me twice. On both occasions, the service and portion sizes were unacceptable. Most recently, I ordered a 6-inch Subway, but Jioti cut the bread noticeably short — it was closer to 5 inches rather than the 6 inches I paid for. I understand that measurements may not always be absolutely perfect, but this was clearly undersized.
The portioning was also extremely poor. I ordered a steak and cheese, and I was given what looked like half the normal portion of steak. I get Subway regularly and know what a reasonable portion should look like. There was plenty of salad added, but barely any steak, which completely changes the value and quality of the sub. I paid for a steak and cheese sub, not a salad sandwich with a tiny amount of steak.
My sister’s sub was also poorly portioned. She ordered a sub with salami and cheese, and she was given only one slice of cheese and barely any salami. Again, there was no shortage of salad, but the actual ingredients we were paying for were extremely limited.
What makes this even more frustrating is that this has happened twice, so it doesn’t feel like a one-off mistake. The portions seem particularly inconsistent when Jioti is preparing the food.
I understand that staff have to follow portion guidelines, but if anything, the portions should be consistent with what customers are paying for. I would expect a 6-inch sub to actually be 6 inches and the advertised fillings to be properly portioned.
I left feeling like I had paid full price for significantly less food than I should have received. Subway isn’t exactly cheap, and when you’re a regular customer, experiences like this are incredibly frustrating.
I hope management actually looks into the portioning and staff practices at this branch, because this is not the standard I expect from Subway and it has genuinely put me off returning.I regularly get Subway and I know what the portions and 6-inch subs are supposed to look like, so I was extremely disappointed with my experience, particularly with a member of staff called Jioti.
